How much HP/Boost can stock internals handle?

How much HP/Boost can stock internals handle?

I'm curious as to how much hp and boost the VQ35 can handle? Also how much HP do you think the stock clutch can handle? I'm assuming somewhere between 500-600 HP. I remember there was a guy on ClubRSX, when I still had a RSX and he was able to get 500+ hp on stock internals from the K20. So that made me wonder how much the VQ can handle. Thanks.

You the search function for a more in depth answer but long story short. For it to stay together indefinitely a good tune and 400-450whp on stock internals but the stock clutch with take a poo in short order. 500+whp has been done by many people but it will take constant tuning on your part throughout the year to keep it consistent and safe.

/\ true but with all the tuner that I've talked to, they all advice me to stay under 400whp if I want a reliable car (Stock Internal)

I wouldnt do more than 7psi or 8psi. DO NOT go more than 412whp. The rods on the VQ are junk and will go soon. Tune it safe if it's your daily driver, youre not out there trying to win street races.

yes 413whp is too much but 412whp is just fine

it's just hard to say, there's so many factors. Best advice is to learn all those factors, the conditions you drive in, how you drive, how much money you're willing to spend to help the engine stay safe, how many gauges you have, how often you watch those gauges and how often you do routine maintenance, etc

400whp can blow an engine pretty easy if you drive the **** out of it on a regular basis, don't bother with maintenance, drive up to 160mph often, don't ever bother to have the car retuned ever, drive it hard in the hot summer, overheating the oil and coolant, driving hard in the cold winter without tuning for it and running way leaner than what the car was tuned for because of the colder air, use crappy gas etc

500whp can last awhile if you go ahead and stay on top of all that stuff - use 100 octane gas, water injection, check oil levels every other day and change oil every 2000 miles, etc etc etc. Just be aware of as many factors as possible.

We have some comedians in the house. Im just give a rough idea. True every motor is different and no number is sure to be safe. But given the past cases and rough idea of what hp you end up with what boost give or take 400 is already exceeding the limits with a decent tune.

It all comes to the tune and driver. Nothing will last long if you abuse it all the time.

Bigbri had 550rwhp on his car for almost 6-7 months before it let go I have heard that up to 450 is as much as you should go but I will let you all know when I blow mine J/K

and the only reason Bigbri's engine let go is cause he misshifted at WOT and had the rpms at almost 9000 for a couple seconds. That'll blow up a stock block with any FI kit when you're cramming a lot of boost into the engine whether it's 400whp or 550whp

I'm going to be doing the 2.87 pulley with water injection and have timing pulled up top to keep the upper rpm power increase at a minimum. But it's mainly cause I'd like more low/mid power that the 2.87 offers. Will probably be seeing 475whp or so when done

Sentry how do you like the ATS clutch? Is it the Twin plate? Do you track at all?

I like the clutch a lot. Yes it's the twin clutch. I haven't gone to the track yet - still finishing up my car and it's already getting too hot here in AZ to track the car on full road courses - or at least I'm not comfortable tracking in 105+ degree heat. Will just do autox during the summer

It drives way better than the tilton street clutch I had before, though I didn't have my supercharger on the car with the tilton so that's probably having an effect on how fast the car drives - kinda why I opted for it and not the JWT clutch or something tamer
