Infiniti GTR?

Had a good laugh reading the article from 2005. Wonder if that really was the prototype GTR with a G35 Shell.

This is a test mule used in development of the GT-R before the actual body was put together. Nothing new. You can see that the rear fender is different and the rear bumper is very different too. But it does have the quad exhaust and the rims on that test mule was later put on to the early version of the GT-R, but it did not make it to the production one.

maybe it was just used to work out kinks in motor/tranny/suspension while they were working on the car it self

Armani had it right - it was just a test mule-
there was never any intention to share anything with the skyline in this generation of gt-r. even back in prototype form (2002) it was a breakaway style from the newly released v35. the body was simply to cover the frame.

i must say that is one of the fugliest body kits and spoilers to grace a G35. i'm so grateful of the actual GT-R design instead of making it our current coupe body style.

that's what it's intention was - to lead all of the speculators/competition down a wrong path. that's what test mules do. it wasn't a body kit designed for the coupe, it was sheet metal made to cover the gt-r chassis, using g35 components where ever they fit.
