2008 G35 Journey Sedan no sunroof
can we expect 7 speed auto 2009+?

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a 2008 sedan (red/black, VPP, no sunroof, have to special order) but I'm a little leery that the car barely gets better mileage than my '92 Q45.

I've read about the 7 speed auto which may roll out to some RWD infiniti products in the future, do you think it'll make it into 2009 G sedan? 2010? I'm used to seeing pretty big updates after 2 years on a lot of models.

Would a 7 speed make much difference on highway mileage (steady cruise in top gear), or will it just improve overall mileage since the RPM range will stay more steady?

Actually, the 7 speed is more likely than the 6 speed...Jatco (the current 5spd auto manufacturer) has announced a brand new 7 speed design. They don't have a 6 speed application for infiniti.

The Lexus LS460 came out with an 8-speed auto a couple of years ago. Now, the new Lexus IS-F also has an 8-speed, I believe. I still prefer the G to any IS model, though. More refined.

Ill disagree on that one, If anything, the IS is more refined than the G , softer suspension as well as a much softer and quieter ride. Not that this is bad for the G, because it still retains good DRIVING dynamics and as with the Sport model, it retains some of the rawness we enthusiasts like.

Summarization? Lexus IS = For old farts who take turns at 10mph.... Infiniti G = A Drivers car who wants to feel the road yet still have their luxury.

I'm sure we can expect 7 gears, but I doubt it's going to be forward gears.

Hay you never know.

Someone might actually need all 7 in reverse.

Imagine going over speed limit in reverse and being pulled over by the police..................wait a minute............I already done that.

I guess one gear is enough then.

Depends on how you define refined

To me, softness does not equal refinement. A balanced combination of handling, ride, accommodations and useful options does. I find the IS too small for a sedan and too soft. The G is just right.

Also, I want to advocate for us old farts. Not all old farts take turns like grandmas. Hell, not all grandmas take turns like grandmas. I've seen folks of all ages drive well, and folks of all ages drive poorly. I think it just comes down to whether one is a driving enthusiast.

I think George Carlin summarized it best: "Those who drive faster than I do are effin' maniacs! Those who dirve slower than I do are effin' idiots!"

Too bad the balance of that statement favors the latter by a sizeable margin.

7-speed Auto.

Yes, Nissan is working on a 7-speed automatic transmission! I have a friend that works for Nissan for over 10 years and last we spoke, he confirm that Nissan is working on it; however, don't know of the release date. My guess is year 2009.
