The unveiling of the new FX is a sign of great things to follow...

The 2009 FX has been unveiled with a new 5.0l 390hp V8 (not to mention 14" brakes, 21" rims, and the 7AT that will be used in the upcoming G37 sedan).

M50 will definitely follow soon in new redesign in ~2011.

And maybe even a further tuned version of the V8 will be shoehorned into future G coupes/sedans to compete with IS-F, M3's, etc.. An N/A V8 G50 sedan/coupe (and Nissan 500Z) would definitely be distinct and separate from the TT'ed GTR.

you had me up until you brought the v8 into a g... i think this is a different market. i don't think a v8 would benefit a z either.

however, everything else you mentioned about the m50, and the fx having a 390hp engine (that is one powerful engine), is right on target with what a lot of the speculators have mentioned.

Why should they wait til the redesign to give the M series the 5.0L? I think they should but it in now to breath new life into the M. That way it can whoop the german rivals in ALL categories and still be cheaper. I am not an engineer, but I am sure this is feasible.

Of course I want the VR38 GTR motor to fit into the G, but seeing how Nissan/Infiniti tends to use the same motors across several models, I think a tuned version of the V8 would be the most likely choice for a super G. Why do you think this is a different market? Lexus now has 6 and 8 cylinder IS's. Same for BMW 3-series and M3's.

The above also applies to the Z. IMO, if the VR38 is used in any other car, it would definitely take away some of the GTR's exclusivity. Plus, I'm assuming that the cost of the VR38 is more expensive than the V8.

Sure Infiniti can have an M50 in 2009 and 2010, it just means they'll have to up the ante again in 2011 with the new design. IMO, a hybrid M would be nice ala Lexus LS.

Nice info and my thoughts exactly. Using the na V8 at 390hp, it would be a nice increase in power without having to use the TTv6 and possibly competing with the GTR.

The V8 should fit fine. You just have to see a Chevy LS2 swap into a Z to see how much room there is in the engine bay

well, hey, my eyes were opened when i saw the pontiac solstice with a v8 in it...

but these are exteme aftermarket companies doing this, not mainstream factory products.

the reason i think this is a different market is -

the m3 is not a quantity factory product, the 3-series is. the 3-series has 6-cyl's.

the lexus is, currently has two engines, a 4-cyl ,and 6-cyl... are you suggesting that there should be 3 displacements for this line? i realize that the is-f is going to carry an 8-cyl (probably to compete with the m3/s4/amg crowd), but this is a limited production car, and for $56k (msrp), this is priced right out of the g's range.

We don't need a V8, 390hp or not..... give us the VR38DETT in the GT-R and don't forget about the suspension and transmission.

Infiniti G38R FTW!!!

I hope the design doesn't trickle down. I don't like the new FX exterior styling at all. Nice engine though.

I'm not saying ALL G's should have 400+ hp. What I'm saying is that just like Lexus, BMW, Audi and Mercedes, Infinti should also offer a hi-performance, more expensive, more exclusive version of it's sports sedan/coupe in addition to it's "regular" G lineup. Can't have the IS-F, M3, AMG, RS4 owners have all the fun, right? And looking at Nissan/Infinit's recent history, I'm speculating that the v8 will more likely be the motor of choice as opposed to the TTv6

The "normal" G's should keep the n/a V6's -- this less-powerful, less expensive version, of course, will still be the mainstay of the G's sales.

i think everybody agrees with you on this... a nissan performance division (almost like nismo, but for real).

bmw - m, mercedes - amg, audi - s, ford - fast moving, unemptied toilets, etc...

i think nissan could take a chunk out of m3/s4/evo/sti sales if they released a performance line (in addition to the z or g - but faster/better). but i don't think a slow revving v8 is the answer, but rather a tt, or a smaller faster revving v8.
