Not to mention it'd be retarded if the Z were to receive a 7 speed unit while the GT-R only got a 6 speed. If anything I'd be willing to wager that the Z gets a traditional 6M/T and possibly the new 7A/T torque converter auto that will make its debut in the '09 FX.
Nissan's standard transmission choices for their higher-end cars include the 6MT, 5AT, 7AT (new), 6-speed Dual Clutch (GT-R), and CVT.
I'd guess the 370Z will come with the 6MT and the 7AT, and I'll bet the 7AT allows them to post the same 0-60 and 1/4-mile times regardless of which you choose (to satisfy the mag-racing public).
I don't see Nissan mass-producing the GT-R's Dual Clutch tranny until they've played out their CVT offerings.
Thus far 370Z, I'm loving it.
I am also glad they are taking a bigger step in changing the way it looks (style and size).
The G37 is a mellow Evolutionary design.
I would love the 350Z to take a bigger Revolutionary step forward like the: 1981 280Z
1984 300ZX,
1990 300ZX.
Each model was a revolutionary design, vs. Evolutionary.
IMHO.
