G37 registered by Infiniti

....
Nissan has registered the names "Infiniti G37," "Infiniti M37," and "Infiniti FX37" with the U.S. Trademark and Patent Office. Typically, companies register names of new products a few weeks or months before their introduction. Infiniti is widely expected to unveil a new G Coupe and Sedan at the New York Auto Show in April, based on the Infiniti Coupe Concept. It appears the company will also use the opportunity to transition from its current 3.5-liter V6 to a new 3.7-liter engine. The M and FX model lines — which currently use the same 3.5 liter engine — will also be transitioned to the new engine, but it's not clear when. So far, there is no reference to a Nissan Z coupe, nor is there any reference to a "G45" or "G40" as some fans had hoped. There is also no reference to the much-rumored Nissan 450Z." It's possible that Nissan has scrapped plans for a G45 and 450Z, and instead focused its high-horsepower efforts on the Infiniti GT-R.

That sounds so-so, they should keep the G35 name IMO to build up brand and product identity. I don't recall Infiniti renaming their flagship Q42 when they downgraded the motor back in 1997.

Infiniti is going along with all the other lux brands it seems. Infiniti vehicles are designated by Q, M, G, FX, QX. It doesnt really matter what the numerical designation is. Infiniti may even release 2 engines for the upcoming G to stay competitive with the is250/350, 325i/330i

Don't both 325/330 have the same size 3.0 engine now? Not that I am complaining, I will be patiently waiting in line to buy a G37.

I think they are upgrading the size of the engine to accomodate the GTR?? Rumors are either a 3.2 Litre TT or a 3.4 Litre TT /w NA when in slow speed, kinda of like the new 2007 911 turbo setup -Variable Turbo timing??!?!

Someone confirm this!??!

It looks like Infiniti is going the route of engine designations within their lineup instead of arbitrary names. You've got name recongnition within their line up just like Merc and BMW- M class, G class, etc, etc.

And yes, the new 325 has the same displacement as the 330. Both are 3 liter engines with the 325 being detuned. This is probably due to component sharing rather than developing a new engine for the 325.

I thought the number in G35 was supposed to be the body code and not the engine size?

R33
R34
V35

Who can elaborate?
