1ST PLACE Infiniti FX35
Less sexy, with more utility and a surprisingly smooth ride. Add in a far thriftier price tag, and the FX is clearly the more rational buy.
2ND PLACE BMW X6 xDrive35i
Slaves to fashion will look no further than this boulevard strutting beauty queen. Shame she doesn't drive as good as she looks.
...and after 70 MPH, the FX is indeed quicker than the X6:
BMW vs. Infiniti
0-30 1.8 2.1
0-40 3.1 3.2
0-50 4.4 4.4
0-60 5.9 6.1
0-70 8.0 7.9
0-80 10.2 9.8
0-90 12.9 12.8
0-100 16.3 15.7
Passing: 45-65 MPH 3.2 3.2
1/4 Mile: 14.5 SEC@95.2 MPH 14.5 SEC@96.4 MPH

Bottom line? Fashionistas and BMW fans will flock to the X6's traffic-stopping style and familiar features without even glancing at an Infiniti dealership. Those who can look past the FX's exotic curves will find an equally pretentious but far more liveable ride. The FX35 has many of the X6's strengths, none of its weaknesses, and a few great advantages of its own-for a lot less money.

As for the car being faster "after 70."
It's already been generally agreed upon that the VQ (especially the HR) shines up top where competitor's engines run out of puff. If you need proof, look at the trap speeds for these two vehicles. However, most people won't be pegging their cars at redline and running them "past 70" except on the freeway. In day to day conditions, the BMW is the faster car of the two in a straight line. Still, the FX isn't far behind before 70 with only two tenths separating both cars from rest to 60 (5.9 vs. 6.1).
However it seems like those extra 700 lbs. in the X6 make themselves felt when the thing comes up on a corner. M/T was too p**sy to come out and say it, but the X6 apparently handles like complete and utter s**t. Not to mention their FX tester was running the standard 18" wheels (WTF?) and not the optional 20s. While this test is broader in the sense that most buyers will be opting for the 6 cylinder versions of both cars, I want to see a shootout between the X6 xDrive 50i and the FX50 Sport. Me thinks we won't have to be grasping for straws when the FX50S wipes the floor with the V8 X6.

One thing no one took into consideration is that the X6 is using the N54 power plant and the potential for modding is insane with a $450 SSTT boost can be raised to a conservative 11.5 PSI adding +40hp + 50TQ. How much $ would you need to spend on the FX35 to deliver HP gains like that?
Or if you wanted to go for more power you can get the Dinan Packages and these come with warranty.
After adding these the FX wouldn't be able to compete.
