First time at the track!

Well today I finally went to Maryland Internation Raceway to see what my stock g35 could do (2003, 6mt, spoiler).

It was extremely fun. I got a total of 9 runs in. My car is completely stock, I have taken out the spare to make room for 2 amps and a 12 inch sub in a box. So it probably has about 20-30 lbs of extra weight. No biggie.

Best run was:

60' - 2.112
1/8 - 9.262 @ 76.33 mph
1/4 - 14.342 @ 97.77 mph

I was definitely hoping to get into the 14.2 territory, all I had to do was get my launch better and shift a bit smoother. So after the 5th run I let it cool down. 3 out of the 5 runs I didn't screw up, 2 of them I missed second both times. Highest mph I got on a e/t was 98.66 mph.

After the 4th and 5th runs where I missed second both times, I decided the clutch had enough for now. After about 1 hour of cooldown I came back. It was previously ~65 degrees, then it warmed up to ~75 degrees. Did 4 runs, totally f'd up a launch and ran a 14.9. Then the next 3 runs really pissed me off. ALL of them were 14.8 @ 95mph. All 2.2 60'. No idea what happened but I guess the ol' G35 had enough after a 14.3. At least I was consistent at running a 14.8 .

Either way that was very fun, and doing burnouts in the lane was cool too. All my runs I did a burnout, I didn't get a chance to see if it made a difference, I just couldn't resist doing burnouts.

Yes, 3 seconds totally wasted while waiting for the two cars in front of you to go down the track before you can stage.

Unless you have drag slicks ............... it is a waste of time and probably traction. Road tires are not like drag tires. Too much heat in them is no good. I know we all want to John Force but try and resist.

Good times for a Sedan.

Wow, our cars perform identical down the whole length of the track. Nice runs.

BTW, burnouts on street radials actually make the tires perform worse because the rubber gets slick from all the released oils. Next time just do a quick spin to remove the dirt/dust and then line up in the "groove" where you see all the Pro-Mod cars lining up. The groove will have the most traction.

Sounds like heat soak is robbing your performance, clutch probably had enough also. Try this simple little trick. Skip the burn out, stock tire perform best at different temp than r-compound or slick. Also keep the heat down on the clutch. On your return road, turn up your heater and pop your hood to let all that heat out. Just pull the release but leavet it latch. Light cruise (20-30 mph) on the way back help evacuate that extra heat from the run.

I know I can drive and the track out here in El Paso clocked my 5AT at 17.1 in the QTR. This was in manual mode too. I think their clock is broken or something.
