ive done the search.but i got nothing

okay so ive been doing a search for the past 30 minutes and have found tons of threads that talk about the Escutcheon Keyhole Cover.

im ready to buy this online for $30 or whatever. but every thread i look through has no explanation of how it is installed..

a few said theres a screw of some sort..

other said it just pops off..so should i just pry it off with a screwdriver (carefully of course)

most people vaguely said "its a 2 minute install"

before i buy the Escutcheon Keyhole Cover i just wanna know for sure how to install it.

please be specific with your instructions..im the sorta guy that panics if something goes wrong (even with the smallest things) so i just wanna be prepared! thanks!

There are two approaches to the install, so decide which fits your goal.

1: Removing the lock cylinder: To prevent someone from being able to shove a screwdriver into your keyhole and then roll down the windows, some people remove the entire lock cylinder. When you buy the passenger-door escutcheon, it comes with a blank, block-off cylinder to install. If you go this route, there is a release screw on the doorjamb to remove the lock cylinder. You will now be limited to the keyfob only for unlocking the doors. See #2 for removal and replacement of the actual escutcheon.

2. Covering the keyhole: Others simply want the clean look of no keyhole, such as on the passenger side. To remove the escutcheon, pull the door handle open to access a small slit/indention on the hidden edge of the escutcheon (facing toward the front of the car). Take a thin flat-head, a pocket knife or whatever will fit and pop it loose from there. It's held on that side with a very small lip, but the rear edge is more of a pocket, so don't try to remove from the rear. Once you pop the front edge loose, lift up and slide to the rear and that's it. Replace the new passenger-side escutcheon by sliding the rear on first and then snapping the front edge into place. In the event of keyfob or battery failure, you can pop off the escutcheon and access the keyhole. The downside is a theif could do the same... ...but they may assume you've removed the cylinder as well.

There are pros and cons to both routes. Look at your goal and consider your exposure if you're trying to decide.
