Quote: Can someone confirm that our manual or service booklet recommends to change MT fluid at 30k miles? I've been asking my dealer to change it, and he tells me it never needs to be changed, and kind of refuses to do it. Anybody with information?
Yes, the maintenance booklet shows a trans fluid and diff oil changed at 30k for the "premium service". I just dropped mine off this morning for the 30k service and asked to replace both. My SA said the same thing about it being a lifetime fluid, etc. I told him that I plan on keeping my G for a long time, and want to take the best care of it and that by the way, the maintenance booklet indicates it as needing change at 30k for premium service. His response when he looked at the booklet, "Oh, it does say that doesn't it?".

Damn! These service advisors leave me speechless sometimes...

Haha...yeah, it's sad when we have to educate them about their job.

Thinking of having this service done soon myself.
Let us know what your Dealer charged you. Just curious what their getting for that. I'm assuming your going for Nissan/Infiniti's oil at the Dealership.
Thanks.

Maybe I need to check my receipt. I had my 30K service done a couple months ago.

The only thing not done was the "optional" transmission flush. The dealer did not have the equipment.

If you're going to follow the 'Premium Maintenance' schedule in the service guide, then manual and diff gets changed every 30K as well as the Auto Trans fluid.

If your going to only follow shed 1 or shed 2, then you change manual trans and diff at 120K and only if you been towing, driving on rough or muddy roads, etc.

It's all there in B&W in the service and maintenance guide.

Let's see....got the invoice here with me. $88 for labor, $51.24 for 4 quarts of Matic J auto trans fluid, and $18.96 for 3 quarts of gear lube 80W90 for the rear diff. So, about $159 for replacing both (I didn't opt for the flush at 30K).

Thanks lelg...doesn't seem too unreasonable in price. Might be a little different b/c I have a manual not an auto, but thanks for getting back with me on that.
Much appreciated.

Full capacity on the 5AT is about 10.8 qts according to the shop manual. Seems like they only drained the pan, which would account for the four quarts you were charged for.

What my Dad used to say about changing engine oil but not changing the oil filter seems to apply: "Q: You know what you get when you add four quarts of clean oil to the one quart of dirty oil still in the filter? A: Five quarts of dirty oil."

The unfortunate thing about Auto's is, how many service shops you know that take the time to drain the torque converter too?.......that's what I thought.
I know of none myself and heard of bad things that can happen with the power flushing.

The rear diff only uses 1.5qts. I wonder where the other 1.5 went?!?
