NCSUG35.........It hurts to even look at those pics....

I'm glad you were out of the car when it happened. I hope everything gets resolved with your Dealership and Infiniti.

Keep us posted as to the outcome

What a place to have a car fire, at a gas station! That could have been a huge disaster. It kills me to see your G that way. I hope it all works out for you. Glad you're ok.

I find this HIGHLY unlikely. There are thermistors in the heating elements to limit current as temperature rises above a certain level. In addition, there are fuses in the circuit to pop if there is a short anywhere in the element. There must have been some modification to the vehicle's electrical during a stereo install etc. Good luck trying to pull this one off.

Hmm. Infiniti corporate is going to really be interested in this one then. If it found to truely be a design/manufacturing flaw, a recall should be forthcoming. Burning to death strapped in your carseat would be unpleasant.

There is currently a recall for 04+ Maximas for improper wire routing, resulting in a short, resulting in a fire. I wonder if similar seat frames, wiring harnesses, etc. are used in the G?
Make : NISSAN Model : MAXIMA Year : 2004
Manufacturer : NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 05V512000 Recall Date : NOV 03, 2005
Component: SEATS:FRONT ASSEMBLY:POWER ADJUST
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 102551
Summary:
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE DRIVER PREFERRED PACKAGE, THE WIRE HARNESS FROM THE DRIVER'S SEAT POWER LUMBAR SUPPORT SWITCH MAY BE ROUTED INCORRECTLY AND COULD BE PINCHED UNDER THE DRIVER SEAT.
Consequence:
A PINCHED HARNESS, IN COMBINATION WITH DRIVING VIBRATION, MAY RESULT IN A SHORT CIRCUIT IN THE HARNESS THAT COULD LEAD TO A FIRE IN THE SEAT.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE WIRE HARNESS AND ROUTE IT CORRECTLY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 16, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.
Notes:
NISSAN RECALL NO. PB011. CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION’S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.
edit -- I realize the G does not have power lumbar support (at least mine doesn't).

Correction, re-read the post again. NCSUG35 never mentioned the heated seat controls or seat heating elements, he mentioned electric seats, which most likely mean the seat adjustment switches, which which don't have thermistors.

Last 2 days I've found out that my car will probably rust (expended rust warranty) - and now it might catch on fire!!!

You Should Get A New Car.. Cuz You Lose A S***load Of Value After Fire Damage... Your Car Is Now Considered Salvaged. Which Really Sucks. So Most Likely They Should Pay To Replace Your Car. Good Luck!
