Valet screwed the transmission lever!!! (5AT) and my complaints about Roadside Assist

I met up with a couple of friends at Duke's restaraunt in Malibu. When it was time to leave, we took separate cars (LA style) and they took off. The valet pulls up in my car and then says something like "it got stuck". I noticed that the transmission lever is in manual mode, but the shift indicator is blank. I tried moving it over a couple times but something was blocking it.

I called up Infiniti Roadside assistance at about 6:30 to 6:45. In the mean time, I tried pushing the shift lock to see if it would fix it, but it didn't help.

Anyway, Infiniti Roadside said the tow truck would take 20 minutes. About an hour later, I called, they said 20 minutes. About 45 minutes later, I called again, they said 10 minutes. The guy finally came through. For a call placed before 7, I wasn't out until 9:00 PM.

For awhile, I thought it may be an expensive fix and I would need to break a few heads at Duke's, but I read this thread and I'm sure I'll have my car ready on Monday. (https://g35driver.com/forums/g-spot/102476-help-03-auto-shifter-stuck-neutral-manual.html)

As a small side story...

While I was waiting there, a customer with a black G35 coupe picks up his car and leaves. This couple standing near my car says something like "Wow... that's a Skyline". I didn't think that happened anymore.

yea, its an easy fix. I was scared it would be expensive when it happend to me, but it only took like 30 mins and a few tools to fix it. I was just scared to throw it back over into manual mode for awhile... that valet driver must've slammed it into manual mode pretty hard for that to have happend... if you need any help ill check back here.

Thanks man.

I'm pretty sure the dealership will get it done quickly since it's probably happened many times before. When I was waiting for the tow guy, I probably saw at least 2-3 other G35s and 1-2 350Zs being picked up.

I thought the same thing at first, but he was able to drive it to the front so I'm sure it was an accident (and the parking space my car was in was also in front of the door).

I also drive a sedan and there were coupes and a few 350zs parked there. lol

Exactly. There isn't any reason he should use manual mode at all. I mean, how fast are you supposed to drive in a parking structure? He must've taken it for a joyride.

I never valet park my cars. I'll park several blocks away and walk if I have to It all started, when I was in college. One valet "accidently" went home with the keys to my room-mate's Volvo T5-R, so we had to wait in the parking lot of the restaurant for the guy to come back. It was close to 1am before we got the keys back. (Room-mate was not about to leave his car overnight in north hollywood)

Then later on, my other room-mate had a valet crash his M3 in the parking structure on the valet's way back from getting the car. We were standing at the valet stand, and we heard the exhaust of his car like he was gunning it going through the structure. The exhaust note was then interrupted with a loud screech/boom. A few minutes later the car pulled up with 2 jacked rims, a broken sideview mirror, and a huge gash running down the entire length of the right side of the car.

Now those two situations suck compared to mine. I'm sure my situation was an accident since the valet was able to drive my car to the front of the restarunt and my car parked was parked 1 row away from the front door (I was complaining about how they should just give me the keys and let me drive off since I saw my car in front).

One time I tried offering to pay the valet to let me park my own car, but he wouldn't hear it But anyways... My hotel room balcony overlooked the front of the hotel. I was chillin' enjoying the breeze, and I was watching the valets. (It was a cul-de-sac type entrance, with some of the nicer cars parked rear-first (lengthwise) into the cul-de-sac.

Anyways, I saw a black BMW 7 series pull up. They helped the guys unload the car, then I watched him park it.... They backed in.... And I actually saw the car bounce off the curb

I'm glad I parked myself across the street

On a side note... Interesting that your car is so close to the front entrance, that you can see your car, but the valet saw the need to stick it in manual mode

Update!

Fixed as per the thread I referenced in the original post. Total cost:

2 hours - waiting for tow truck
$60 - limo ride home (malibu to sherman oaks)
1 sunday - I burned a lot of calories that day
1 monday morning - bussed it to work, towing company said they delivered the car, dealership denys
10 minute walk to dealership (I work nearby) - see car, complain to "service advisior"
10 minute fix (under warranty).

All that work for a 10 minute fix.

The service advisor ordered a new shifter component since my car is still under warranty.
