Exclamation Oil Pressure Warning Light

I went to the dealer and had my oil changed last month. So occasionally when I drive the oil pressure warning light on the navigation screen pops up indicating low oil pressure (this never happened when I brought the car in April, car has 34k) . I give it a little gas and it goes away. I checked the oil and even added half a quart and the oil warning light still comes on ocassionally, say two or three times out the week. Well earlier today I went to work. I started the car and the car blew out a small cloud of white smoke. It sounded fine so I drove off, no smoking or funny noises . Came home went out again and got icecream and it was fine. Comming home on a small street I am in neutral. I rev the motor up a little bit to about 4500rpms and I hear a rattling noise . I pull off and the car drives fine. I am going to take it to the dealer but does anyone have any idea what this could be? The only mod in my car is a short ram intake (which will be commming out . My previous cars (my 97 civic, my 99 si all with swaps or forced induction) whenever I saw signs of smoke it meant bad news (blown motor, blown head gasket, piston rings, piston through the block, etc.). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It could be quite normal for the light to come on when the engine is hot and just idling when the pressure is lowest.
Keep and eye on the oil level, and check with the dealer if maybe they put a lighter oil in last change.
Keep him apprised of the issue.

You said you added half a quart. How low was your oil?

You better find a flat surface, park your car for 30 minutes, and check your oil level.

I swear these cars have minds of there own. I finally found out what the problem was.... There was 7 quarts of oil in my car... I know WTF! . I took the intake out today and was going to go to the dealer, but as I previously said I know usually white smoke means trouble. So I go and wash the car and it is smoking periodically. Something said go change your oil. I go to Tech Lube and explained my problem to a long lost friend of mine. He goes down in the pit and drains my oil.... all 7 quarts of it. I just changed my oil on July 31st at 32k and now my car has 34k and the oil was black! Anyways he said my filter was clogged. and the pressure was causing the smoke to blow out of my pipes. But long story short I got a synthetic oil change 50.00 bucks with Vavoline 10w20, and no more smoke. Now I can put my intake back in until it is time to go to the dealer (don't want any warranty issues)

7 quarts of oil probably came from you always adding a quart? white smoke = oil burning in the combustion chamber not necessarly something blew up or flew through something -__- also you do realize that our oil cap says 10w30 right not 10w20... this isnt your honda that takes 10w20 -__- but yes clogged oil filter can cause oil perssure problems but it can also cause engine damage too.. i suggest you run a compression test or hook it up to a 5 gas machine and make sure nothing was damaged. i hope u werent pushing your motor with 7qts of oil -_-

oil was probably getting past ur rings on the piston.. dumb question but u guys changed the filter too right o.o

Carefull. White smoke quite often means that you are burning coolent. Quite often it is a result of a blown head gasket. A blown head gasket can also cause coolent to migrate into the engine - giving the appearance that you have extra oil in the car. If you drained out 7 quarts and you also see white smoke from time to time, it seems quite likely. I would have the dealership check the head gasket. Also pull off your oil filler cap and check the underside to see if there is a white film on it. If there is you might have coolent in your engine.

From my experience, white smoke at the startup was due to using 89 octane. Don't know if that's in your case.

^ oops ur right

White smoke = coolant
Black smoke = gas
Blue smoke = oil

but blue smoke may look like white smoke to some people

Thanks guys. I did use 10w30 and I did not beat on my car (have'nt done that yet), I went to the dealer today and everything is fine. I don't put anything less than 93 in my car. I am just used to running a higher octane from having forced indcution cars. But the funny thing that I was told was that sometimes the oil light comes on and trhat the dipsticks don't go all the way down into the motor for a correct reading.
