Is there a point in modding if your not going FI?

I have been reading there threas for over a year and a half. I have done a couple of mods myself. But lately I have come to a complete halt. I think the mod bug is dying for me.

From what I have seen, most of the guys (and gals) on here that do mod there G only add a max of maybe 20whp with these bolt ons and spend around 3K to 4K? It almost seems like a waste of money, if your not going FI to do these pricey mods.

I guess what i am saying is... what is the point and why are you modding your G? Not trying to bash anyone who is modding just want to know why and what are you trying to accomplish?

No engine mods here. From what i've seen i'm in agreement w/jackygor. Lots of money spent for little bang if any.

i'm in a toss up as of to what I want to do. I mean I want to go fi but then when I hear some of the horror stories of motors being blown I change my mind but then I read more post and see some people don't have any issues running boosted vq's so it kind of contradicts my thoughts. If i decide to s tay with bolt ons it will simply be intake, test pipes, exhaust, plenum spacer, pulleys and, a retune of my ecu. If i go fi then more like a built block and a Vortech supercharger.

Simple bolt on mods that won't break the bank is my philosophy.

Mrev w/ 5/16 spacer, Stillen CAI, Ztube and Exhaust, Oil catch can

Things that won't break the bank and will give you moderate performance gains.

Now suspension and wheels is where I have dedicated my attention to since going FI you will need this anyway.

Why mods.............?

I've never owned a car that I didn't mod or change something to make it
better and more driveable. Not to mention making it better looking from
rims/tires to lowering and body kits. I got to say I've never owned a car
that I haven't upgraded the exhaust.......sounds better and you get that
seat of the pants hp increase......I'm on my third exhaust system with this
car...........these are upgrades more than just mods and my kinda fun!

for me it's been about being different... faster than stock (from the performance mods) and more unique looking (from the cosmetic mods).

If you are happy with the look and performance of OEM then it is absolutely a waste of time and money... most of us that mod use it as a type of hobby... researching, trying new things, etc...

If you want "bang for the buck" performance then absolutely without a doubt FI is a better option than NA mods.

my car fares very well against other VQs... I have never lost to a stock 350Z or G35 (on dyno on the track or on the street)... additionally you will never see a G like mine - so for the reason I mod yes I have been satisfied. Also I have met some great people and made good friends in the process.

i have an 03 g35. i got the car wanting something nicer than the honda civic i had.. something i might not have to mod. when i got the car the wheels had some scuffs on them so, i got some 19's started looking around at the intake and found out the oem Z tube and K&N was a nice sound gain if anything.. now i am looking for coilovers and exhaust. i would love to go FI and eventually build the motor but i just bought a house so mod money is limited i keep saying once its paid off.. but by then it will be time to get something newer

I think my bolt on modding is all in my head. I can't stand to drive stock.

Plus the sound of the bolton's makes the car so much more alive. Stock sounds way too tame. I wouldn't completely go all out, but purchase the basics like plenum, intake, exhaust just for the racy sound and feel for everyday enjoyment.

I would have to agree that there seems to be no point, these cars are so damn slow and no bolt ons are going to change that.

i think its a cool thing to spend money on a few basic mods to give you a little edge over other stock Gs out there. i wouldnt dig too deep into the money pit though. just simple, basic, inexpensive mods that work. if youre really lookin for power... FI is the way to go... or spend lots of money on NA mods as another option.

I hear what you saying but if you look at the mods for the G... THE ARE NO INEXPENSIVE MODS. Any decent mod for this car is $300 and up. To do basic mods on this car your going to spend over 2k figuring (exhaust, intake, spacer) nevermind (y-pipe, hfc or test pipes, and headers).

Im just not sure if its all really worth throwing maybe 3k into a G for MAYBE 20whp.

Have you ever upgraded ur computer like RAM or Video card?
or decent 20" LCD Monitor from 17" CRT?
I believe its the same reason why you mod ur car
