Ticking When I stop

Hello Everyone,

I have a 2006 G35 Sedan with about 5000 miles on it. I noticed recently that when I stop the car, turn the engine off, and get out, I hear a loud tikcing noice coming from under the car near the engine. I have heard this before but only on older crappy cars I have had. LOL....Is this normal? I have read some things about bad pistons but would that happen so early? I also only hear people talking about that when the car is running. Can someone help?

Thanks,
Chris

Anyone that does not want to TRY and treat me like an idot want to respond. If you don't have any helpful comments, please spare us your comedic aspirations.

Thanks,
Chris

The clicking, popping is normal. One of the resident gurus will respond with the technical reason why, but I always figure your exhaust and metal parts get hot while the car is running and they need to cool off .. all my cars have done this.

Thanks so much adawar. I am only really concerned because it seems really loud, even in comparison to some older Chevy/Pontiac cars I havre had in my earlier years. I look forward to the deeper explanation and thank you for chiming in.

Chris

What help do you want? You should be worried if your car is not ticking after you turn off a hot engine not the other way around. Believe it or not that is normal on any car. What idiot told you that a piston is bad if you hear a ticking noise on your car? Just relax nothing is wrong with your car don't be to paranoid.

As others have said, your exhaust is hot and is cooling down. Nothing to worry about.

If it was something with your pistons, you would hear it from the engine bay, when the car is running.

somebody probably planted a bomb in your car. And when you drive it deactivates and when you not it's back to ticking and getting ready to blow up.

You might want to look into trading it in. I would not want my car to blow up in the middle of my driveway.

chriss9 asked a simple question. I don't understand why he gets flack for it and these silly responses.

Do you guys think you are adding value here or are you trying to get your post count up? (Make a new thread for that)

Surely, this will mark the beginning of a new flame war

Chris, I do agree with you on this one. I felt the exactly same way on my 07' G35 6MT and it only has 550 miles lol. I remember my uncle's Acura CL Type-S (he got it brand new back then) doesn't make any ticking, popping noise when it just turned off. but his friend's old *** SC300 making that kind of noise when it just turned off, so I ask him why then he told me because the car is OLD!! the new car shouldn't do that. I know it's normal and ALL kind of cars does that but I guess the level of noise is depends on the car. but the G definitely makes it loud. lol

It's not the simplicity of the question, it's the stupidity of the question. Value or not I think common sense can asnwer this question of his. When the hell did this guy start driving anyways is it the first time you ever heard of such a thing happening to your car. I don't think so, cus you already said you heard it happen on older cars. Just because you drive a newer car doesn't mean it won't happen again. Combination of hot exhaust and cool air will do this to any exhaust unless the law of physics doesn't exist in your world.

Waiting for an expert in car ticking to chime in? Maybe you should wait for common sense to chime in. COMMON SENSE try using it maybe he can solve more complex problems in the world.

Realizing that this problem is not a big deal and just a metal cooling down. We decided to have a little fun with a guy. What is the harm in that.

party pooper.
