If Infiniti refuses to put the 3.7 in the sedan, I won't be buying one.

If the 3.7 doesn't make it too the sedan I'll be pissed. I won't even consider the G and go straight to a 335i for my next car. Plus, they should make 19's and 14" brakes available as well. I was pissed already when I ordered my 6mt sedan back in Aug of '03 and couldn't get Brembos, now I had to go search them out to get it for my car. If BMW offers the same in both, why can't Infiniti. I should not be penalized choosing 4 doors.

It's pointless... Bad for sales I think... If BMW decided to drop their I6 Turbo in the 335 sedan why shouldn't Nissan up the power in the G sedan to compete? If anything they could make it an option.

Yep, I completely agree.

I still don't get it, what is it that makes coupe owners thinks the sedans are sooooo inferior?

Well I don't know how much sense this makes, but, I think coupes are more highly regarded because they are generally the more sporty of the two. Also, the coupe almost always has a sexy, sleeker profile. Otherwise, why make a coupe?

That's why I like BMW and Infiniti. They are performance brands, plus, they put as much effort into their sedans as they do their coupes. Both the 3er and the G sedan are fun little numbers to drive.

I can agree that coupes are generally are considered more sporty versus a 4dr typically being a family hauler, however Inifiniti does not give equal priority like BMW does. If you've ever done a 'Built & Price' for both you would have seen that. The options for BMW sedans are the same (wheels, engine, brakes), back in the E46 days the ZHP package was first made available to the sedan and not the coupe, giving it 10hp more, .5 in. lower suspension and 6sp tranny. However when I got my G I couln't get the wheels or the brakes, plus I got demoted in the HP dept. That of course got evened out in the '05-'06, but now we're back to same ol crap again. Coupe has 19's, the sedan has (ugly IMHO) 18's and doesn't get the 14" brakes, nor the extra HP. Only time will tell if they fix that. I'd definitely would be willing to pay an extra $2k, to get these benefits.

I completely agree. If the G37 Sedan were available with the 330HP engine, 14" Brakes, and 19" wheels, I'd buy it tomorrow. I'm in the market for a car right now, but I'm stuck trying to decide between the G35 Sedan, IS350, 335i, and yes, even an SRT-8 Charger (if only because it's the fastest 4-door at about the same price point).

The G37 Sedan would put me over the top to buy Infiniti - but with every other car being faster, I'm not able to pull the trigger (and unfortunately, my real desire is a Corvette, but my wife doesn't want me to buy a 2-seater or a coupe - so no G37 coupe either). I know a Vette isn't a fair comparison, so anything in the sub 5-sec realm to 60 and 104+ mph in the quarter mile is going to give me a very quick car (SRT-8, 335i, and IS350 have all done that in the mags - G35 is behind).

But the real reason for my reluctance to buy the G35 is this: if the G37 did not exist, I probably wouldn't care and would buy the G35 - but knowing that the G37 will cost about what the G35 costs and will be faster, well, that makes buying the "inferior" car a very hard pill to swallow.

Finally, someone who seems to understand my point of view.

I know how you feel, everytime I have bought a car I have gotten the best I could afford in that range, but the last two cars I bought received substatial upgrades the following year. In '01 I got A/E Maxima fully loaded. The next year they added an extra gear in the MT, memory seating, navi, and upped the motor to a 3.5L. On the G I had to settle with less HP and no Brembo's. The following year the car got a power boost (REVup) and 18" wheels along with a much needed interior freshening (and they finally fixed the dumb clock placement).
This time I'm waiting longer, to see what's next in the G's midlife update (plus I can't afford to get a new car right now). It seems that being on the first half of the life cycle of a car you endup mssing alot. But here (w/ Infiniti) the case is totally different, it looks like they are again going to deny the sedan of being top contender just b/c of 2 extra doors. It doesn't make sense, esp since the cars are basically the same. Not everyone wants , needs or feels it's necessary to have these options (HP, wheels, brakes, .2L), I get that. Just give me the option, I will gladly pay for it. I want a fullout BAD@$$ SEDAN, not something that is 90% of its twin brother or almost as good. Infiniti is leaving room for other competitors to prove their sedan in better in some way or another. With the coupe they are addressing that head on, but not on the sedan, why?

BTW, you brought up a good point about the sub 5 sec, I really expected better #'s from the new G, although they have yet to do a REAL test on a car that's broken in fully.
