So this may be a stupid question but have you guys considered how our tiptronic transmission works (How you shift up and down manually)? All non paddle shifting tiptronic cars are setup like our G35s, so that You shift up by pushing the lever forward and shift down by pulling it back. Isn't the tiptronic transmission supposed to mimic the sequential transmissions of race cars? Sequential transmissions (which have clutches for downshifting) shift up by pulling the lever back and by pushing it forward with the clutch engaged to shift down. Ergo, Wouldn't you think that our tiptronic transmissions should be setup in the same manner (granted without the clutch), basically inverting the current way we shift manually? I dunno, this has been bothering me for a whilel. It would be definitely more natural for me if I could shift up in this manner. What do you guys think?

Hate to burst your bubble, but my Mazda shifts opposite of the G35. Forward for downshifts and pulling back for upshifts. Makes it extremely confusing when switching from one car to another. John |
