Oil Catch Tank

Anyone install an Oil Catch Tank yet? I know GREDDY and CUSCO make them... if you have, post pictures and state what size diameter hose to order 15mm/9mm

Reason why I ask is becasue I noticed that when I installed my NISMO CAI, after taking off the old stock tube i looked inside to where the "vent tube" connected and there was oil coming out of the inside of the opening of the tube...like it should be doing...

...and oil catch tanks were built to re-route that oil to a tank so that the engine wouldn't have to compress it...since oil/water is non-compressable...

i know that it's just small amounts of oil but i look at it like a cigrette...it's only one cig every few hours but adds up to gunk build up over a series of years... in your lungs/engine

she's my baby... have to take care of her...

Ask moog. Or search for his car on the ride section. I think he sells them too.

Thanks.

Re: Oil Catch Tank

I always wondered about doing this mod, but haven't really seen how it hooks up and where to put the catch can.

Re: Oil Catch Tank

Okay..
"What does it do?"

Well from my understanding and the way everyone has explained it to me... I guess long ago before you and I were question marks in the back of your parents hot rods...the EPA or someone made a big fuss that cars would leak too much oil that was vented out of the engine block (that little rubber hose that clamps onto the intake tube on both stock and aftermarket parts) straight out of the car onto the ground, causing pollution...

Sooo... car manufactures figured that re-routing the spurts of oil back into the intake wouldn't be a big deal... so they re-route this line back into the intake tube as i mentioned above... and then the pollution problem is solved... engine recycles the oil by compressing what is not compressable in the engine block...along with the air.. it's "small" amounts so car manufactures claim that it does not hurt the car.

Problem is that it does i think in my opinion. It may not hurt immediately but little by little i think it builds up carbon and small deposits and such....

Usually you only get an oil catch tank if you buy Forced Induction because of the intensity the engine block is much higher and when you put more strain on the engine i guess it spurts out more oil into the intake...(once again i may be wrong on this, this is how it was explained to me)

So before this post turns into a novel.... the oil catch tank is supposed to be not just an aesthetically appealing obejct under the hood but dually serves a good and valid purpose by "catching" all the oil before it enters the intake to the engine block... there is a hose that re-routes the oil to the catch tank and then another line that re-routes the back pressure to the intake tube.

...and then every once in a while you look under the hood and check the really cool glass gauge meter on the oil catch tank and empty the oil out... thus saving your engine from small amounts of uncompressable oil that will damage your engine in the long run

WHEWW... too much typing...
If anyone has a better explaination please post..i'm still learning about this too.
