Overall long term reliability/repair costs for sedan.

Looking to buy an '08 Base G35. A mechanic buddy of mine said that the G works well but when they break out of warranty, I'm screwed. He said the costs would kill me and that I should buy American. I like the G. Anyone have any general comments about typical repair costs.
Alternator, water pump, transmission, etc.?
