I have an appointment with a "regional technician" next week to look at the car. Hopefully there will still be cold enough temperatures for him to listen to the noise...

Again - if there is anyone out there who has had this transmission problem - and had it fixed - please contact me on here or at lucas.jefts@arcadis-us.com so that I can gather some additional documentation. It looks like I am in for a long fight...

I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Here is a link to a thread about this subject:

I had my transmission replaced - with no real drama from the dealership.

A g35 driver search for "syncro" will provided you some additional info - I'd guess.

And the syncro problem is pretty well known: reference C&D article on a 2008:

see the last sentence of Para.4

just to add, i've had teh same issues in the cold, when in gear. IT IS the tranny. Took many many visits to my infiniti dealership to convince them more or less. They actually ended up calling infiniti corporate and came back to me and said they will replace the tranny. . .when i came back after that phone call, another technician popped in and said he wants to do a test on the rear differential. .. i gave in and let him do it. . . they put these "microphones" under the car to listen for any odd sounds. he claimed he heard the "whistling" sound from the rear diff, so they replaced it. . .well, i get back my car a few days later its cold again. . .and the whistle noise came back, so i def knew it was not the rear diff, and it was the tranny. . .i called infiniti up, went there again for like the friggin 10th time, and basically talked to the technician and sales rep. . .at that point i was pretty pissed for having to go back to the dealership so many times for them to run tests and waht not, but basically, i'm still under warranty, and the whistling sounds as far as i know does not effect performance at all. its warm here now and no issues with the tranny. . .so i told them i will be back the following winter to take care of the tranny replacement. So, all in all, it is the tranny for you it seems, but if u still got warranty, i say hold off a little to get more life out of this tranny before you get a new one prior to ur warranty ending. . . and have them call corporate as well, or you can possibly call. .

Well I met last week with a regional service rep (I had to call in a Consumer Affairs number and tell them I wanted to meet with a regional service rep). As it was almost 70 degrees out, he barely heard the noise. But after a little more convincing, and showing them a video I made in the winter of the noise, Infiniti is going to replace the transmission. They want me to wait another couple weeks until the newest version comes out and they will put it in then. He thanked me for the video and said that they were going to take my old transmission for "testing".

Ill let you guys know how it turns out. Hopefully this solves the problem. Thanks for everyones help so far!

Well after calling the consumer affairs number and meeting with a regional service representative, the rep approved a new transmission. They put it in last week and the whinning noise is completely gone. Also, the shifting is much smoother. The transmission is the latest revision - they said it doesnt even have a parts number yet.

So, it took almost 5 months, several mean emails threatening BBB and asking to speak with managers, and probably about 9 visits to the dealer, but the problem was finally fixed. For those of you who have this problem and are under warranty, stay patient and be persistant. Infiniti still claims that they are not aware of this transmission issue, but if you do a little research you will find that unfortunately this is a major problem in an otherwide unflawed car. Bottom line - if you have a problem under warrarnty - they have to fix it. I would also reccomend calling in an Infiniti consumer affairs number early in the process - this seemed to help because it logs the problem into the system and they recognise that they need to fix it and make you happy. If you have any questions feel free to ask me.

Thanks for all your help guys!

I have a rattle but its the aftermarket clutch. The dealer did notice it though, but it was best to keep my mouth shut since I'm going through an oil consumption test. oh well.

I have the same problem as well, Although it happens in warm weather as well (but much less than in cold weather). While driving with the noise, I put the car in Neutral, and tapped the gas a few times while rolling. The noise did change with my RPMS.

Anyways, to the people who did have their tranny replaced...did the service department actually say what was wrong with the tranny? Is a problem? are internal parts wearing?

I have the same noise on my 2006, it started half way through the first winter in January. And now there is a grinding noise when I release the clutch in neutral.

This puppy is going to the dealer on Monday. It only has 25 K on it. I am starting to regret getting the 6MT. I spent a lot of time messing around with this problem.
