MPG readout
I did some research and came up with this...

It should work on any car after 1996, when they started requiring the onboard diagnostic output in cars.

well you could always fill up your tank to the top reset your trip odometer.... drive it around for a while... go back fill up your tank. take the ammount of miles you've driven divided my the amount of gallons it takes to fill up your car and BAM! MPG FTW.... j/k i have the fully loaded nav MPG read out and its not always accurate one time it told me i was only doing 11 MPG!?!?! after 2 days of driving.....

You know what sucks? My 05 Altima had this feature so I was baffled when my 05 G35 didn't have it. It's just one of those things that you want to have but isn't really all that important.

The nav MPG read-out is using ECU data about how much fuel is being injected to track the MPG. It should be very accurate unless it gets a bad data point, in which case it will average it out or you can reset it.
Its not like it's some silly hack or anything -- the ECU knows exactly how much fuel should be injected for the amount of air the MAF sensor says it coming into the intake to maintain appropriate air/fuel mixture.
