Question Question for you G drivers?

Ok so we got this new guy at work who drives an 04 "Skyline" he says is straight from Japan. This all started when he said he could take me in my car 07 touring 350z. I was pretty sure the G35's were just badged as skylines over seas and that the new 350z engines are the same as the 03-whenever G engines. So the question is there a difference in the "Skyline" in Japan and the G's over here, besides the steering wheel position?

Thanks for your help.

Ryan

Nothing power-wise. I think there are few cosmetic differences, but that's it. And his isn't from Japan unless the steering wheel is on the other side.

btw, you should be able to beat him. His 04 only has a 280hp engine and is a couple hundred pounds heavier than your car. I believe your car has 306hp due to the new engine which is also found in the 2007+ G35 sedan.

His car is slower unless it is modded.

aren't they all made in Japan?
not saying they are the same because there is the JDM (skyline) and the USDM (G35) but still made in Japan...I think most of the differences boil down to emissions and safety standards...and that steering wheel thing

and you'll spank him...

Pretty sure it is the same engine and the minimal hp difference is the difference between the baffiled intake of the g and the straight tube of the z. Most of us with G's and a clue have already rectified the intake tube.

A G coupe is a 350z with a back seat. The platform is pretty much identical.

No, it was for a while. I don't know what year they changed it, but they moved it up to the new VQ35HR engine for the 350Z, which is a legit 306hp, It's reworked and I think it's lighter but I'm not sure. Basically it's faster. And lighter.

My Dad can beat your Dad....haha

This is some pretty funny at work BS. He may have purchased his G from
someone that fed him this story after they rebadged the car....not uncommon. (poor sap) Our G35s regardless of year weren't made in Kansas.... they all came to us on a big azz boat from Japan.

The VQ35HR (the rev-up model) is available in any g35 6MT 07-present and the 350z of the same years. Bacisly It has a modded lower intake manifold allowing it to rev to 8 rather than the the standard 7 in the VQ35DE. Thats where it gets the extra couple horses from but it also loses torque. You have have been learned.

The VQ35HR stands for High-Rev!
Rev-Up was only for the 05-07 6mt Coupes and Sedans!

Only 07+ Sedans. The 07 coupe is still rev-up. The 306hp HR engine was completely redesigned, 80% of the stuff is new or something. The VQ35DE Rev-up is DIFFERENT than the VQ35HR.

THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS THE REV-UP in the 05-07 coupes and 05-06 sedans.

Ah, I new the 07 up models were a different engine, (and that 6MT coupes and sedans 05-07 had the rev up) but when I wiki'd the VQ page it didn't have anything listed about the 05-07 rev-up DE model. Good Info...I have been Learned ..LOL. So does anyone know about the 350Z with this revup DE engine?
