Fog film on headlights (stock)

Hello Everyone- 1st post but I have been reading these forums for about 6-months and is a big reason I bought my G.

So here is the issue I am having. I have a foggy film on my headlights ('03 G35 sedan) and I can not get it off with a car wash or glass cleaner. It goes away for 2-3 minutes after I clean them, but then it comes back.

Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

I used to PlastX from Meguiars

I used like 5 applications of it. and used a lot of elbow grease.. it will clear up very well.. maybe not PERFECT.. after that, follow up with your favorite wax to protect it.

Oh yea.. also.. if you start.. you might have to do it every 3 months or so. Because I heard it take the "coating" off since you are polishing it... but don't worry about it too much.

sand them down to an even haze with 1500 on a DA, then go back with Cutting Compound on a rotary buffer.. step your way down all the way to swirl remover and glaze....

should be good for a few months.. (as already stated)

Thanks for the responses. Is this something that happens to a lot of G's? Why does it happen?

Thanks

^^^ that was sarcasm, for the record, in case you didn't get it.

what you need: 3M Plastic Polish, clean cloth, 5 minutes.

Mine is on the INSIDE. Anyone find a reasonable solution to that?

I don't know about the exact cause, but I clean those headlights with a clear plastic cleaner every month or two, and my headlights are as shiny and clear as the day I bought the car in 2003. I don't remember the name of the product off the top of my head, but it is specifically formulated for cleaning clear plastic and it is very mildly abrasive.

If it's on the inside, your headlight is likely cracked somewhere and water is getting in and condensing. Look for cracks in the silver portion of the headlight, apparently, they're quite common.

Ok, thanks you everyone for the suggestions. I have some information to share. I got the PlastX from Meguiars b/c it is what the auto shop had and it worked like a charm (cleaned them in less than 5-mins). It suggested that you don't get the cleaner on painted surfaces so I taped the hood and bumper around the light with wide painters tape. Wiped the PlastX on using a cloth and wiped off in the same manor.

The reason that this happens is b/c the headlights on the G are so hot. The wax used in car washes remelt and create the fog like film. I hope this helps anyone that didn't know why or how to fix this issue.
