G35 Reliability/snow?

So I've been looking for a new car lately, and my car finally crapped out on me (1994 bmw 325is) so I've been looking into a 2005 + G35 Coupe/Sedan.

Just wanted to know if you guys could give me some insight as to if this vehicle is a good buy.

I'm looking for something that is very reliable (My parents have 2 VQ30DE
s with no problems) But I'm not sure about the 35.

Is the G35 notorious for any certain problems?

Also, how is the car in snow? My BMW wasn't perfect, but I survived through the New York winters without rear diffs/traction control/stability control etc and snow tires.

Lastly, how is gas mileage? My commute to work will vary depending on what form of transportation I choose to utilize. For the most part it will consist of driving to the train station, or a 75 mile round-trip commute.
Online research seems to indicate that the gas mileage is rather lacking (Estimated 24mpg hwy?)

I'm sure some of these questions have been asked/answered, so I apologize in advance.

I appreciate any and all responses to this thread.

And I had to throw this dude in since I've never seen it on any of my other forums

The G's are pretty reliable overall. They can be a bit tricky in the snow without the optional rear diff. I live in Michigan and already purchased some winter tires for the pending winter. MPG is true to EPA ratings under normal driving.

I was a little worried about how the car would handle in the snow when I was thinking about buying my 03 sedan. The thing handles awesome in the snow. I but some Blizzaks on all 4 corners and never had an issue. Combined with the traction control it is almost impossible to get the rear end to kick out in the snow. So throw some good winter tires on it and you won't be dissapointed. I handled almost as good as my old Subaru in the snow. If you want to have some fun find an empty parking lot with lots of snow and turn the traction control off and have a blast!!

In regards to the gas mileage I get around 21 overall and that is with mostly highway miles (at 80 mph). I know the 05 has a bigger engine so it maybe a little less.

In regards to issues the only thing I would look into is the oil consumption as you are getting an 05+ and some of the engines do have that issue. Other that you should be good to go.

I would highly recommend buying a G you won't be disappointed!

Wow...your situation is similar to mine because I just recently got my 06 G35 coupe and I was driving a 95 BMW 325is last winter which was quite difficult. Although the G35 is also RWD, I believe that it is much better to drive in winter since it is equipped with traction control unlike the old bimmers. I'll be preparing myself for winter by getting winter tires for my G35, and as for my bimmer...I'm just going to store it in the garage for now until I sell it later on. Overall, the G35 is a great car and I believe it's also reliable to drive in the snow. I love mine and I actually can't wait to see how it drives in the winter.

Hope this helps with your decision.

The biggest problem the 05 and up(6MT only) G35 has is the Oil Consumption issue, however if you have it, Infiniti will replace your engine for free (Under warranty)

There are no other big issues in the car. I think there was a window motor that went out around 70k in the 03-04 but I'm pretty sure it got fixed for 05. Also you will need snow tires since if your getting a 6MT, it will have summer tires equipped that do nothing in the snow. Also, I've seen Hwy MPG in this car up to 34 mpg (Not me)

as for snow, i'd rather get a winter beater for ~$1k, then put the g35 through hell

i'm pretty much in the same boat. Just picked up an 06 G35 Sedan 6speed. My Blizzak LM-22's just came in (get them now from tirerack, they're on special right now since they're the "OLD" model). From the responses i've read, the G's are pretty good with the proper tires. I hope so...

I have the G35x - mainly RWD but the AWD kicks in, and it actually has a "snow mode" switch that puts more on the front up to 12 miles per hour (I think). I live in Minnesota and it works very well. If you find a G with just RWD definitely get some snow tires and on all 4 wheels. Good luck finding your G!
