Nissan recalls more than 200,000 vehicles - G35, G37 included

Nissan recalls more than 200,000 vehicles
Most recalled cars are in the U.S.; malfunction may impact air bag
The Associated Press
updated 11:40 a.m. ET, Wed., Oct. 15, 2008

WASHINGTON - Nissan Motor Co. said Wednesday it was recalling more than 200,000 vehicles in the U.S. and overseas to fix a sensor system that could affect the car's passenger side air bag.

Nissan said the recall includes 140,000 Nissan Altima cars from the 2007-2008 model years. It also involves 2007-2008 model years of the Infiniti EX35, G35 Sedan, G37 and the Nissan 350Z, Murano and Rogue.

Nissan spokesman Colin Price said there have been no injuries or crashes, and the company discovered the problem during internal testing. Most of the recalled vehicles are in the United States; others are in Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico and the Persian Gulf.

Nissan said the recall affects vehicles equipped with Continental Automotive Systems' Occupant Classification System control units. An electronic component in the control unit located in the passenger seat cushion may have been made out of specification.

The Japanese automaker said that could interrupt a signal in the sensor system and prevent the passenger air bag from deploying under certain conditions.

The recall is expected to begin in early November.

stop thinking your car needs it you will be contacted when the recall comes out and it only affects less than 1% of infiniti's sold of those models so don't get worried. I HATE WHEN RECALLS COME OUT. Its like when the flu breaks out OMG I NEED THIS I HAVE THAT haha

no all dealers have at least infiniti it was sent out via memo though infiniti-net.

also keep in mind this was not a federally mandated recall it is through infiniti what they found through an initial study

Sometimes my daughter sits in the passenger seat and the air bag light lights up showing that it's disabled. She's 16 and weighs 110 lbs. We jump up and down until the light goes out.

My understanding is that it's related to the sensor in the seat cushion that deactivates the airbag if a child is in the seat. Otherwise the airbag could seriously injure a youngster.

They will replace the seat sensor and you'll be on your way.

My past experience with recalls, I used to own and drive only Fords, is the dealer will only say something when you bring it in for service. The auto maker, Infiniti, will mail you a card or some other kind of notice regarding the recall.
