Injector cleaning service? Worthwhile or rip off?

Hey all - brought my '05 sedan into the dealer this morning for the 45K service. The service rep wasn't pushing a hard sell on it, but he mentioned the fuel injector cleaning service that the dealership offers.

I am the 2nd owner on the car, so I don't know what kind of fuel the prior owner had been using, but the service rep said he thought it was generally a worthwhile procedure to have done - apparently involves both a fuel tank additive and some liquids they run through the intake for 50 minutes. I was thinking I'd probably be better off saving the $150+ the service costs and putting a bottle of Techron in the tank next time I fill 'er up. Thoughts?

Do it! But don't do it at the dealer, you have to take out a second mortgage to get anything done there. I would go into your regional or club forum and ask about trusted shops in the area. They may even have a sponser that offers discounts to club members. Try this
