Got question about my G35 automatic/manual tramission

I have a 03 G35 automatic/ manual and was wondering if any one knew why there is only five gears when i switch to manaul. I thought all g35 were 6 speed. And also would my car perfomance wise be equal too a 6 speed. And one more question, Is auto/manual mean rev up cause it revs up when switching gears. Thanks a lot . I just got this car and jus was wondering casue dont kno too much about it.

6 speed is a full manual transmission.

5 speed is a slush box automatic.
it IS NOT an manual trans, it just allows you to play with gearing a little.

AT = 5 speeds
MT = 6 speeds

MT is faster than AT (and more fun to drive!)

Rev-up only applies to 2005+ 6MTs

(correct me if I'm wrong ... this is coming from a 5AT driver!)

You have an automatic transmission. It just has a feature that allows you to manually select gears that some people call "Manumatic"

A Manual transmission has no automatic feature and you pick each gear all the time and use a clutch pedal to help engage them.

The Manual G35 is a 6-spd gearbox. The Automatic G35 is a 5-spd automatic gearbox (what you have)

Performance wise, a manual transmission is a "little" better since you have slightly less drivetrain loss. It's preferred for the ultimate driving expeirence.

In terms of drag racing, it's a toss up. You'll put more power to the wheels with a manual, but automatics offer advantages in terms of consistency and launching. Some automatics (not the stock G35 auto) can even shift faster than a well shifted manual. Serious high-HP drag race cars sometimes prefer Automatics because of this while the "enthusiast racer" types prefer manuals.

Manuals also have a shorter gear axle ratio. Probably is what is accounting for the slight performance differences.
