Steering Wheel Vibration

Ok, so i am at my first 1k miles on my 2008 G35x, and I have a couple of issues. I have noticed recently that sometimes my steering wheel vibrates when I am doing about 60-80mph on the highway...it doesnt do it all the time, and its a slight vibration...the other is when i am at a red light, i can sometimes feel the engine vibration on my left arm when its on the drivers door armrest...once again, only sometimes....anyone have any suggestions? I will prob call dealer tomorrow...I know that the steering wheel vibration cant be normal.

i think engine vibration is normal, especially with a V engine, steering wheel shouldn't be, try balancing your tires first

^+1 your engine vibration is normal, but the steering vibration at high speeds is definitely not normal, either you need your wheels balanced, or a wheel alignment

what ever it is, the dealership will cover everything

+1. That's probably what happened if it's not an alignment/balance issue.

yeah maybe...thing is that it only vibrates sometimes...my 15 minute drive to work it only vibrated once for about 1 minute, and that was doing about 70mph on highway slightly going uphill....its not all the time, which is the weird thing. If it is the tires, how would they fix that? I am assuming they would replace the tires.

i had this issue. First suspected the wheel balance. Found the front right to be 1.5oz off. Problem fixed.

Seems like an alignment/tire issue.

From my experience, I've learned that vibration at higher speeds is most likely wheel balancing. The wheel (and tires) are not perfectly distributed as far as weight. So one spot may be heavier than others. They put a little weight to balance it out, hence the name.

If your steering wheel vibrates when braking, however, that's probably due to warped rotors. If you're tough on the braking, especially at higher speeds, or even if you wash your car right after driving, it can warp your rotors. Spraying water on hot rotors will cause them to rapidly cool, causing them to warp.

Overtightened lugnuts can also warp rotors. Therefore it is advisable to torque the lugnuts to the proper torque.

ok, so just picked up my car from the dealer and they said that they couldnt duplicate the vibration...Which I believe because this doesnt happen all the time....It didnt even happen once on my ride home....It just seems odd to me that this happens sometimes and not all the time...I know its not the brakes because it doesnt happen when i hit the brakes...very odd...hopefully it will straighten out over time...

I would have them check out the alignment and brake system.
