The service advisor at my dealer was telling me about a headlight cleaning kit that the dealership sells that he described as the Infiniti kit that included two different cleaning compounds. I was not aware that Infiniti sold its own kit but he said it was a high quality kit and cost about $35. Has anybody tried this kit???

 

i just said my headlight was a little dirty and the service manager guy was like ok we'll buff it out for you when i went in for a routine checkup

 

Lucky you - my service advisor said they would perform the cleaning at the dealer for - get this - $100/per headlight. I could barely contain my laughter.

 

its typically a 3m cleaning kit that you can buy at autozone with there name on it...I picked up one from Autozone for like 19.00. comes with everything you need.

I have a buddy of mine locally that does healight restoration if you have haziness and his whole setup using 3m products and the right tools is like 70.00 for both headlights

Buy some clear plastic cleaner at any auto parts store, you don't need the Infiniti stuff. I've been using Meguiar's Clear Plastic Cleaner, and my 2003 sedan's headlights are as crystal clear as the day that I bought it.

Most of that nasty yellow residue that you see on some G35's is heat baked soap and residue from car washes.

 

Whats the best way yo get rid of small scratches on the headlight itself ..

 

oh jesus... $35?! get $9 bottle of 3M Plastic Polish and $3 set of lint-free cloths from your local auto store.

 

I just used the plastX by meguires last weekend and the light covers look brand new (Were all foggy) $7.80 per bottle. Forget all the other stuff and go get a bottle. Anyone know what else you can use this stuff on? It worked so good I want to try it on something else

 

I use PlastX here. ~$8 or so. RUb it on, buff it out and then put a nice coat of wax over it and you are good.

$8 should last you YEARS

 

its not OEM. but we use a rain-x kit at my work. this topic has been discussed many times im sure youve read.... any gentle paint polish will work fine, youll just need to throw a uv coating or keep them waxed afterwards. also toothpaste works great to clean them.

 

yea the kit they offer is not oem at all. i work for toyota and we offer a headlight restoration service but its not oem. we sublet work out like that just like any other dealer or like now were doing the service in house because we just got a kit that 3m offers that we charge 2.0hrs of labor so $220 for it.

 

its just like when u get leather at a dealer its not "factory" leather most of the time its a sublet that we have install leather just like other dealerships.

 

The 25 cent solution: use toothpaste, which is a polishing agent (this is what is in the $10-50 lens cleaners), hand-rub it it slowly, gently, onto the lens using a rhythmic motion as opposed to jerky movements so as not to scratch the surface. Use a circular motion and add small drops of water as you cover the headlight. It takes about 1/2 teaspoon per headlight and 2 minutes apiece. Once you polished the lens, take a microfiber towel, wet it and wipe the toothpaste off. Rinse the headlight, dry it and apply a good wax sealant like Collinite 845. Reapply sealant after you've buffed off once, let it dry and rebuff the lens. It should be perfectly clear and the sealant will reduce the "oxidation" for another 3-6 months. I've been using this method for >10 years and it works!
