I bought my car used and the e-brake felt pretty loose. The dealer told me that most of the time this is the cause of driving with the e-brake on. They told me that it could be adjusted when the rear brake pads were replaced.

The Infiniti mechanic told me that when new brake pads are put on the slack on the e-brake should go away. Long story short, I think the worst thing that has happened is that your rear brake pads got a little more worn down.

2 miles seems like a long distance but you're safe. If she drove it doesn't seem like the brake was engaged really hard or else it would have been a huge bitch to drive.

Your pads and rotors probably have about 2 months shaved off of their life for that.

Make your sister pay for them and never let her drive it again!

Yeah don't let your sister drive your car anymore. Never let friends or family borrow your ride unless its something you don't care about. I've heard endless horror stories about friends and family members borrowing other people cars and messing them up.

Brakes

It's a pretty easy fix. http://www.infinitihelp.com/diy/ go to the brake section and look up the brake job video. Within the video he shows you what to change to adjust the e-brake. He's not elaborate since the point of the video is for a rear brake change, but its enough. It's also on the shop manual which you can download.

Hope this helps!

Don't worry about it! You have not permanently damaged anything, and worst case, you need new pads (not the rear brake pads, the parking brake is a drum brake inside the rear rotor). If your parking brake still works, you're golden. If it's loosened up enough that it doesn't engage, change the pads.

I did some googling, here's some photo evidence.

it is true. the parking brake has nothing to do the the rear brake pads or calipers. The set up is like a mini drum brake that uses the inside of the rotor hub as the drum. It has it's own pads.

Why else would the CABLE need tightening? You're standard brakes or not going ot be looser. The E brake will be looser.

it shouldn't effect the g ebrake set up but I do know on cars where it is integrated into the rear calipers it self adjusts as it gets used. If it never gets used it never adjusts to the pad wear and eventually doesn't work at all.

Like I said should not effect the g since it is not a part of the rear brakes but I am a 25 year mt driver and always use the ebrake no matter what car. it's just ingrained as habit.

seriously though, ur rear breaks prob. just got excessive wear that it didnt need no biggy.
unless she had it all the way up, which in that case im pretty sure she woulda noticed.
