oil consumption question

I'm still confused about this problem. Does the car develop oil consumption over some time or how does it work? Let's say you buy a car and checked oil consumption and everything passed, can the car still develop that problem or its good? Inform me please ... thx in advance

The issue is rare, but if I remember right much more common on the up reved engines. So the 05 coupe 6MT is a much more likely car to have the problem than my 04 AT sedan.

OC can occur on any '05/'06 MT Revup motor which is due to poor quality rings. OC even in very rare cases happens to earlier models too. Makes you wonder if Nissan is still buying their rings from that manufacture.... Can you imagine what the cost of replacing all these engines might be? Gary

Yeah I know that but the probability is way lower in automatic and buying my first car for my own money I don't wanna buy something that's gonna give me problems you know.

OC can occur on any VQ motor, in any make or model. It just happens more on revups. Yes, this oil consumption issue is not limited to Zs and Gs... even some of their trucks with a completely different motor have a similar issue. Of all the cars they sell, oil consumption is a pretty rare occurrence, but Nissan is getting pretty used to seeing this these days.

If you can afford it.. buy a newer G that still has warranty. Then it wont matter if you get OC or not. Infiniti has covered about 20k worth of stuff under warranty for me.

Yeah I'm going to go for an 06 model which should have warranty till 2011 if I'm not mistaken, but what if the car starts to have this issue after the warranty expires? Sorry to be an *** with all these questions but I have to make sure I get something that's gonna last me since I'm basically throwing all the money I saved up so far. I'm 20 and been working since 17 so i'm really careful towards investing in something like a car of this type.

I just took mine in for an oil consumption test before my warranty expired so in case something happens later, it'll be on the record that there were concerns about consumption just in case I do need a new engine, I can still get one free.

I always had it perfectly maintained. All records with Nissan/Infiniti and still had to get a new motor.
The only mods I had up to that point were intake, exhaust, and spacer.
