OP, get Clay Magic blue clay bar from Autozone, it's like $12, removes contamination pretty well, and doesn't crumble like your average OTC clay bar like Mother's does.
I'd say get clay magic as well. Mothers, clay magic, meguiars, they're all made by clay magic so get the cheapest one. I think you can still order the riccardo from canada.

If you use quality clay along with detail spray it will remove all the contaminants from your painted surface. I wouldn't even consider waxing my G without using clay first. I've used several brands but the best I've found is from Griots.

That's what I'm saying, the mothers clay is bruuuutal. Doesn't even take anything off.

Ever used riccardos?

I clayed my car when I got it, and was really surprised how clean the car actually was. So I did the bag test and I could still feel some imperfections. I order riccardos and reclayed my car..... It turned black.

Sure Mother's works, but not even close to as good as some premium brands.

SxSkyLinexS; Yea pretty much, back in forth over the car length wise (the way the wind would travel over your car) you don't need to reflatten it after every pass you really only need a little tiny bit. Like an 8oz bar like the Mothers kit had should last 5 or 6 clays, but that also depends on how mangled your car is.

so bascally rip off a little piece (1/6 outta a 8oz bar)

go with the flow

if u dont refold it, doesnt the sand on the clay scratch your car?

i am doing it right

Oh no no, I don't mean DON'T remold it. Just check the clay every couple passes to see what it's picking up. You have to be careful if it picks up something large, then you run the risk of sliding that through your paint. You still need to remold it just not as often as your original post made it seem.

You could do maybe a body panel each time you remold, if that's what you meant. But still check it every so often to make sure nothing big got picked up.

The wash before you clay is very important as well, you need it to be as clean as possible so they you are only pulling the contaminants of the paint when you clay. You don't want to start rubbing dirt into your clear coat.

I was going to mention something about winter then I realized you live in socal.... Lol enjoy yourself!

Make sure you do a good thorough clean with dawn or some hevy dish soap to pull off all the previous wax. Then look around from some quality wax and enjoy your cars new again look... for 2 weeks.

It's bad for wax, it goes right through it. Your car on the other hand is safe.

It gives you a nice clean surface after the clay to apply wax to. Most higher quality soaps have very light amount of wax or carnauba, which is what you need in between waxes but does nothing for you if you;re going to clay bar and can actually make it hard. If you miss a little spot claying, at least there is no wax there.

Hopefully you don't use soup.

You don't need to clay your car very often though, maybe once a year and you'll be good. Especially in SoCal, here in Canada the cars that see winter (not mine) get all salty and **** and turn into quite a detail come spring.
