There really isnt that much of a problem driving a rwd G in the rain
Snow driving I can understand but I commute from Queens to the Bronx and back everyday and I don't have any problems.

+1 on new tires though cuz when they go bald you are fcuked!

 

I dont think the AWD is that good on these cars. Snow tires will help though. AWD comes in only when you start to slip.

Not true.

Under 11MPH, the AWD is always active. 25%/75% in normal mode and 50/50 in Snow mode. Over 11MPH, the car changes to RWD unless spin is detected.

Like i said before, it's one of the better AWD systems i've driven.

 

^Yea i know that, doesnt count for me. By the time u start going and look at your speedometer your on 20. I prefer an AWD system that is always on.

Snow mode is 50/50 up to 20 mph or 25 forgot the number.

 

I think you may be off just a little bit besides 'under 11 and over 11' which I think is actually under 12. Again this is 'may' since so much of this info seems to contradict each other and may be because of changes.

If I understand the system and this may be year dependant to some extent it is:

Normal mode:

25%/75% up to 12 mph
0%/100% after 12 mhp

Snow mode:

50%/50% up 19 mph (note this is part of the may)

Reduces throttle sensitivity

I found this to be true as the manual stated and seems true at all speeds since my wife turned on snow mode instead of her seat heater. Stupid place for the switch or heater switches. Felt weird when I got on the freeway and I pulled over at the next exit. Hint if things seem a little different, such as cruise control or performance, check the switch.

Increases AWD sensitivity above RWD revert speed(again this is one of those maybes, but is widely reported as such, I haven't noticed a difference)

The 19 mph seems to be the biggest difference if true since I think that is a range that many may end up driving in in town. Also what is a little unclear from everything I researched is if it drops back into 50/50 on the way down or stays as a RWD until slip is detected.

In any case so far I have found that it works very well indeed.

Doesn't really matter much, i think the basic principle of when the AWD is operating is the same. A lot of people think the AWD only comes on when the SLIP light is blinking. It may in fact come on during that time, but the AWD is not part of the traction control system. It is operating even when the SLIP light is not on.


Oh, when i had an '08x loaner about a month ago, i did reach for the seat heater and actually turn on snow mode myself! Was pretty funny when i was wondering where my power went! (throttle response reduced)

On the 03-04, i beleive it's near the shifter, but ahead of it or to the side. The 07+ as you know is is in the middle of the seat heaters but on the 05-06 it's down near the driver's right knee so you need to look down for it. I'd actually prefer it near the shifter, but i guess it's nice to have it out of sight during the 9 months I don't need it.

Unless there is deep snow or i need to go up hills, i leave it in normal mode anyway. Still plenty capable

 

I think some of the sensors are the shared and also their response is coordinated when both are active at the same time.

As far as the 19 or 20, I can't find anything from Infiniti that states either number, but there is something interesting and that is 19 kph is about 12 mph so that may be where others are getting the number (or maybe it applies to different years or different models, ie FX). My manual says 12 without giving any special number for the snow switch (besides the 50/50).

If you have the ICC (technology package cruise control) then you will also notice snow mode is enabled since it disables ICC. Wipers also disables ICC.
