engine break-in question...
engine break-in question...
ok so i had my longblock replaced under warranty at riverside infiniti about a month ago due to oil consumption. i know the TSB says wait 1200 mi. before going over 4k rpm and dont go WOT. im at 1100 so im eager to get back on the throttle but im tryin to play it safe. so how many of you with engines replaced under this tsb have just gone "***** out" after the initial break-in or should i still be following those guidelines for another couple thousand miles or atleast until the first oil change? also should i do the oil change earlier due to break-in material making it into the oil?
i just miss that chirp every once in a while
any input is appreciated

If I were you, I would wait. If you follow the guidelines, nothing will go wrong with the engine after the break-in. But, if you don't follow the guidelines, then your engine could have problems down the road. Just my opinion.
Also, the longer you wait to get back on the throttle, the more exciting it is once you are able to.

ive followed the guidlines until now (1100 mi.) but if i were at say 1500-2000mi and wanted to get into the higher rpms would there be any resulting damage or is the engine considered "broken-in" already?

I think it's time to change oil and filter and drive that new block like you normally would, just don't be obusive....use Mobil 1 5W/30 and their oil filter too....

Yeah change your oil and get most assembly lubes and metals out (takes about three oil changes to get that all out).
After 1200 I say yes you can step it up a notch, but be careful. Rings are NOT 100% sealed/seated yet at 1200 miles. In other words, don't red-line it quite yet, but some WOT's are okay under 5K rpm. UOA's will tell you when rings are 100% ready and can safely go ***** to the wall without harm.

^thanks i will still be careful after 1200, no redline shifts or nothin until probably after the third oil change which by then i hope the rings will be seated.
nope, i had taken my car to them at 30k for a 30k service and went back for an oil change and to begin the OC test at 35k. other than that i did all the previous oil changes from 15k-30k. i bought the car with 15k on it.
^ ya pretty much, the 30k service included trans and diff fluid changes as well as an oil change but 1 oil change after that which was the test and i had my new engine. when i bought the car in 08 it was still under its original factory warranty of 4yrs 60k.
