Mod Poll

Not a poll asking what to do to my car... Just an interesting thought of what part of modding people like best.

Some people like keeping a car sleeper with highest performance possible, some like keep performance stock and focus on styling... some like it all but have favorites.

We all have different reasons for modding - maybe it's to freshen up the looks of the car as an alternative to buying something different, or possibly to change things about OEM that weren't right in the first place... possibly just to show off to other people (or any/all combination of the above).... maybe its just to make it as fast as possible that handles on rails, whether for track use or spirited street...

This poll is for everyone - whether you have done specific mods or not (sometimes the research is as much fun as doing it - and some people may prefer to study things rather than apply them, all is totally acceptable)...

Personally of all the mods I've done I always am most excited about performance, particularly engine mods (include breather mods)... body mods are fun, but sometimes stressful and more questionable.. wheels, brakes and suspension are a necessary evil and not as fun for me... interestingly I havent gotten into audio/video for this car which is weird becuase it used to be a big part of my life and other cars I've focused more on that (also at home I used to be reall into it and have decent setups in livingroom and bedroom)...

So, what is your favorite mod topic - whether its getting it done or researching about it (or both).

Initially I planned to poll specific areas:

*Engine/Drivertrain - inlcudig all internals, breather, ancillary coolers, etc. and all transmission, rear end stuff - NA and FI

*Brakes/Suspension

*Wheels/Tires

*Audio/Video

but then realized that many people that are more into looks focus on suspension and wheels, or more into interior do audio, video and lighting for example... so it might be better to simply poll: Performance, Exterior Styling, Interior Styling...

I realize that many of us mod multiple categories... but what is your favorite - what is most fun for you?

I am an audio modder at heart - can't stand stock audio - but with the G35, I get a big kick out of performance mods the most.

Though I'll always be NA outside of winning the lottery or finding a sugar mama, mods that I can feel from the suspension or hear from the engine give me the most joy whenever I'm driving around town. Audio is more of when I'm stuck on the 405 going to/from work.

I never thought I'd mod much outside of upgrading the audio and getting decent wheels. But ever since the first troika of mods - the z-tube, MD spacer, and Stillen sways - I've been a goner for those 'you can feel while driving' mods. Just trying to pace myself more now lol

Little bit of everything, my suspension mods are as much for appearance as performance, and I hope to do some interior mods as well. Not many appearance mods so far because the ones I want are expensive!

From reading all the threads here, anyone who has been here for a while will notice that this forum is more focused on styling i.e. flush wheels, stance and body kits.

Compare the performance and visual mod threads.

Someone could build an AWD RB G35 and someone else can get a roof overlay. The roof overlay thread will get more hits. The performance forums here are very small. (search for a thread for an AWD RB G35 and then search for roof overlay threads and you'll see what I mean.)

I turn to 'driver for visual mods and wheels and over to my350z for performance.

I'm a fan of both, but in my heart, a believe a car that is visually appealing should have at least some mods under the hood. I'm just not into all show, no go.

Of all the people who have BBK's, how many of them actually track their car? I doubt it's very much.

I'm not attacking anyone, just posting my .2.

My first G35 I went with a lot of performance parts, they are mostly a waste of money because the performance return just isn't there. My current G35 (last one got totaled) I'm focusing mostly on looks and suspension, with a plenum spacer, lots of blingy Arc stuff, and exhaust thrown into the mix.

Well considering our cars are pretty fast relative to most cars on the road for a stock car, its easier to go the show before go route.

exterior mods I kept to a minimum. drop, spacers, gialla grill. The designers really outdid themselves with the styling so I am content just to enhance it a little to where it doesn't really look modded but looks like it should have if they went just a little more aggressive.

Interior is stock except for the ipod mount in what was the ashtray and a gauge pillar. Jury is still out on the gauge pillar. I like having the extra gauges but sometimes I think it's a little ricey.

Audio was a definate must. stock HU but kappas all around, a jl audio 6ch running all of them in full range and a basslink.

Performance wise kinetix ssv, berks and FI exhaust. These are my favs out of everything I've done. Car sounds intimidating as all hell.

I really have only 3 things left before I call it complete: a strut bar if i can find one that works and doesn't rub, hotchkis sways and vortech v3. The vortech is the big expense but that needs to be up next while the engine is fairly fresh. Have less than 20k on it now since it was replaced for OC

I was all about performance but now I'm focused on exterior upgrades.

My particular mod procedure started under the hood, then to the exterior and back and forth until I had achieved what I wanted. But I'm still not done, going back under the hood with a new intake and overflow tank then to wheel repair/polish to fix what the haters have done to my Volks....

good responses guys - but I guess I didnt really make my point clearly... the poll is more about what part you enjoy the most... it's all fun of course (its a hobby), but for me the performance stuff is more fun.

Example - while car was at TS have cams and headers installed every-time I thought about it I was real excited (forget about the outcome)... and researching to determine whether I should do head work, etc was enjoyable... but the bodywork (as great as the outcome is) was more strenuous/tedious... lots of research and creative thinking (which I like), but the process was more nerve-racking... wheels are a pita for me because I'll never put heavy wheels on and currently my fender require a real weird offset - so the wheel thing is not fun, but needs to get done...

When its all said and done, I always look forward to going back and doing more performance stuff... the rest is more of a chore (like something that has to be done) especially the wheels issue right now.

I've got to imagine there are lots of ppl who passion is more about audio/video or widebody & cf... like was previously mentioned there are boatloads of threads about wheels/tires/slammed and such - I know that's a passion for lots of guys...

so thats kind what the poll is about - what part is most fun for you...

OCG, so far I'd say the mod I've enjoyed the most is my drop on 19s. Can't say I wouldn't enjoy boost as much or more, but for me it's about balance.
