OBD2 Issues?

Hey guys,

I just had my starter replaced. As soon as I took possession of the car from the shop I noticed my ScanGauge II would not turn on. I assume the shop unplugged it from the OBD2 to do a diagnosis of the car's computer. I went out of town for the weekend, but it still won't work: no power/display at all, despite unplugging it and plugging it back in. Doesn't look like there are any broken pins on the cord.

Could replacing the starter screw up that connector somehow? Or am I looking at negligence from the shop? I am going to get my car inspected at a different shop today, so will know if it's the car's connector that's broken or my Scan Gauge. What's a good way to deal with the shop if they're the ones who broke it? (Not a dealership).

2006 G35 6MT

Thanks!

I highly doubt the starter install messed with that part of the car

Try another scan tool and see if it powers on.

Also, the ODBII are fused, so check for that also.

TEST ALL fuses, even if they look good.

Thanks blaze, it was the fuse that was cooked. The car failed inspection though, registered three "indicators" where in NY I'm allowed only one. The guys at the shop told me after having the battery disconnected and starter replaced to drive it around another 40-60 miles or so then come back and see if they've reset.

Please Help!
Do anyone have the OBD2 connector colour pin-out for a 2006 Infiniti G35 Coupe?
Is Can High BLUE(pin6) and Can Low PINK(pin14)?
Are Can High and Can Low continuously transmitting data?

Your car has to complete what's called the drive cycle test. It is made up of several different types of driving. While it may vary slightly from make to make it usually involves some highway type constant speeds, varying speeds with stop and go and fuel levels between 3/4 and 1/4. Depending on how you drive your car after the reset (either using a code scanner or disconnecting the battery) it can take 40 to several hundred miles for all the monitors to clear. Typically the O2 sensor and cat monitors clear first and the EGR system clears last. This can be seen by the fact that O2 sensor and Cat problems will retrigger CELS very quickly while EGR problems can take hundreds of miles before they retrigger a CEL.

Rather than taking your car somewhere to have the monitors read, you could get a $20 wireless adapter, a less than $10 app and use either an iOS or Android device if you have one. If not you can get a useable used Android phone or tablet for around $40. No phone or data plan is needed, it just needs to have bluetooth. Anybody who wants to work on or know more about their OBD-II equipped (96+ in the US) cars should have one of these setups.

I've fould that with my car, it only takes 10 miles and 1 drive to reset all the drive cycle monitors.

I second the statement about anyone who does any work on an OBD2 car should get a code reader

I had this same issue when I was due for smog check and had the check engine light because of O2 sensor.
As mentioned above I bought a $15 code reader on ebay & cleared the code.
It took about 4 days of daily driving to clear the drive cycle for me.
I drive about 30 miles a day round trip to work. The route includes freeway, city & canyon driving.

You can google drive cycle and it will give you a bunch of similar check list processes you can perform to complete a drive cycle but I found since I wasn't under any time constraint that daily driving was an easier option.
