G35 vs. G37

So my brother in law is sitting in an Infiniti dealership as we speak and is buying a '10 G37x in white. Brand new. Personally I think he's crazy buying brand new but it's not my money. Anyway, I went with him to another dealer to test drive an '09 model last weekend (which also had sport package) and he didn't get it as it turned out the car had a previous accident, the engine service light was on and the interior was a little roughed up (with 12k on the clock).

The test drive was very unspectacular and the car felt much heavier/bigger than the G35 I got only five days before that test-drive. The interior is beautiful but the car drives a lot "larger" than the G35, from the limited experience I've had in both cars. It's super nice but less "fun" than the G35 I think.

Maybe it's just me.

It's YOU.. Stop hating on your brother. Be happy for him.. The interior is about 100x better than ours. The motor doesn't burn oil, has VVEL, and gets better MPG.

Navigation is leap years ahead of ours. Engine is also quieter than ours for some reason. Doesn't ping as bad as our REV-UP.

The front end of the G37 looks better than our front end... However the rear of the G37 looks pretty weak compared to ours.

Anyways, our G is old news. The G37 is just better.

Buying new does sting.... My G is barely worth half of what I paid for it. LOL

haha there's no hate whatsoever IMO the older ones look "cleaner" but I'm probably biased. I just thought I would be blown away by the car now that I like the G35 as much as I do, and I wasn't. Just my observation.

Did you get to test drive the G37 or were you a passenger? Yes, the G35 does look "Cleaner" in some angles. (mostly side and rear).

The G37 looks a little "bubbly" for me. But performance wise, the G37 has an edge. Also, the G37 doesn't has as many problems as the G35.

I don't like the rear of the 37 at all, especially that halfassed chrome lip of a spoiler. I'll take my black ironing board over that any day

I was only the passenger. I know it was not a fair respresentation of the car as speeds were very low, salesman was a good 250+ lbs and I'm about 20 lbs shy of that lol so the car certainly had enough to haul around. My brother in law wasn't loving it either but I'm sure his test-drive today was different and possibly had some highway driving mixed in. 30 mph doesn't help in making a decision based on handling and passing abilities...

Yeah tech wise, power wise, comfort wise - it's better, I have no doubt. I guess I was expecting a bit more as it very well could be my next daily driver (based on how much I like the G35 I just got).

I had an 09 G37 rental for a few days and it was nice.

Interior was nicer and classier, pick up was great, ride was more comfortable, displays in the cluster, etc. It was a rental, so I did beat it up.

Overall, it's a much better improvement.

I had a '10 G37 loaner and the performance is night and day compared to the 1st gen G35's. I also really like the updated 2010 interior. The car definitely seems big, but it still handles better than mine. It's hard to appreciate it until you get it out on the highway and open it up. As much as I love my car, I would take the 2010 in a heartbeat.

I do agree with the styling comments though. The 1st gen definitely looks better from certain angles.

IMO the G35 is more "raw" being built in the earlier years, while the G37 is more luxury appointed with its updated interior and improved NAV.

I've both had a '07 G-35 6MT and have a new '10 G-37S 6MT -- (I don't buy 'em, I just lease 'em). The G-37 is a lot quicker, has better seats, and came with great, great Brembo-like brakes. I liked the looks of the G-35 better; the sharp edges of the rear end/trunk looked better to my eye. That chrome lip on the G-37 trunk lip looks like a leftover from a '65 Toyota Corona station wagon but it does hold the nav-system back-up camera. The G-37 seems easier to drive fast -- the rear end sticks better with the VDC off. I turn off the VDC when I get in the car. It may work well in the snow or mud or whatever, but the VDC is not for anyone who drives fast, particularly here in Northern California. The VDC cuts the throttle when you don't expect it and is just scarey to experienced drivers. The G-37 is a lot quieter than the G-35 -- so you have to carefully watch your speed for a while in the G-37 if you drive by background "noise-level" -- I know from personal experience that the CHP doesn't buy the argument that "my new G-37 is really a lot quieter and I thought that I was going a lot slower...." I start the weekend driver's schooling soon. The Bluetooth phone connection works much, much better in the G-37 than in the G-35 probably because of the comparative quiet. Both are great cars. The G-35 was trouble-free for the three years I had it -- just replaced the tires once a year. I'd buy a hypothetical "G45" if Infiniti decided to put the big 4.5 liter V-8 in the G-coupe body.

I really disliked the G37 at first, until I bought one. It really blows away my old G35 in every single aspect. The outside was my biggest hesitation, but with acouple small mods it look 100 times better than my G35 ever did. Like the chrome lip, just get the painted spoiler.... bam solved. There are so many improvements. Bigger brakes, nicer interior, better navigation, nicer seats, hood has shocks, handles better, improved headlight design, keyless entry/start, stronger engine eternals, more power, responds better to modifications, and one of the biggest to me.... I dont see them everywhere on the road. I loved my G35 but it does suck when 1 out of every 20 high school kids now owns one.

Here is my G37

He will pick it up tonight. Fully loaded and added remote start, LoJack and some other security measure to the car.
70 miles on it
White 2010 G37X Sport with Stone interior.

I have a feeling I might change my tune real fast
