I pay about $46 to do it myself...

Figure about $7.95 per quart for GC 0W30 ($40) and another $6 for a pure one filter.

I thought you are supposed to get your oil changed every 3k miles? Or is that for the regular oil and if you use synthetic it will last 6k miles.

Also does anyone find the oil level checking guage hard to use? It is in such an awkward place that I can't even get a proper reading on how much oil I have in the car.

Last question: Do we need to use a special flushing fluid before you get an oil change to get rid of the "old" oil or no?

Yes it's 3K or so. You can usually go longer on synth but the only way to truly know is to have somewhere do an analysis on your used oil. I go 5K with German Castrol true synthetic but I am crazy about maintenance.

Yes it's very hard. Worst dipstick design I've seen yet. Impossible to do when the car is hot. I wait until cold, and use the back of the dipstick sometimes if I have to.

Absolutely not. Engine flushes are just an upsell from oil change places. Do NOT get talked into them. They can't really help, and can only really hurt as far as I know. Just drain old, replace drain plug, replace filter (after putting some fresh oil on the o ring of course), fill with new oil (5 qts.), and your done.

Factory Interval is 3750 Miles, Most good Synthetic oil's can be used for longer. Castrol Syntec has been tested via a UOA ( Used Oil Analysis) to run upto 6k.

Yea it sucks, let it sit after filling it or engine activity, I find that its very easy to get the level after an hour or two. Also pulling the dipstick out toward the intake will help so it does not pick up some oil that might be on the block side of the dipstick.

No, just undo the drain bolt and let it all out, change the filter close up the drain bolt and fill it up.

Which synthetic is better? Mobil1 or Castrol syntec?

Mobil 1 has a better looking container lol

Also what if you want to switch from regular to synthetic? Is it okay to just drain the regular and fill it up with synthetic?

DIY is a good idea but my plan is a step above. Using AMSOIL 10W/30 along with a K&N filters and buy them on line....won't discuss the cost. Then I take my coupe to a friends shop and use his lift that way I check tire pressure/brakes and clean the undercarriage while the oil is draining. Back on the ground I check all fluid levels when adding the new synthetic. This way I have the confidence I can drive my G35 anywhere without concern, knowing the job was done right! Laying on the cold garage floor is no longer something I consider fun....LFOL!
