got high beamed and honked at by oncoming drivers, wtf is going on here....?!? /rant

I was on the way home the other night and it was somewhat late between 1-2am

There weren't many cars on the road, i'd see a couple here and there on the opposite side of the road, couple cops but nothing was amiss.

Here is where it gets ridiculous. I have a 08 g sedan so the stock projector lights are pretty bright i'd say so ofcourse at night when I am the only one on the street, you'd imagine i'm illuminating the whole road ahead of me (with a cutoff on the left).

First car that drives by on the left HIGHBEAMS me and that really caught me off guard. I looked to see if my highbeams were on... NO okay wtf

a second car comes on the left again before I reach my house and HONKS the whole way past me. Again this person is ****ing clueless. I was going up a somewhat bumpy hill, so i'm guessing my lights were bouncing to make the effect of me flashing lights at them?

has this ever happened to anyone? should I highbeam them back to let them know im not stupid and driving with them on, but just have really bright lights?

what would you guys do in my situation. Kinda frustrated some people are truly ignorant of this technology...

Make sure your headlights are aligned properly, if one is shining higher than normal, people could get the impression that you've got your high beams on. Also, when the plastic headlight lens gets cruddy, it diffuses a lot of light into people's eyes, get it nice and clean with a clear plastic polish.

^ As above, do a quick check to see if the alignment is ok.

2nd: Some people see HID lights and want to high-beam you out of jealousy

A friend of mines mom saw me turn my headlights and I heard her mention "oh I hate those lights they shine in every ones eyes" (I have 6k bulbs, in stock HID housings, there is no glare, but they are slightly blue)

So she assumes that the BLUE means improper headlights and the "people" she doesn't like. What she doesn't know is that the people she doesn't like are the idiots that retro HIDs in reflector housings and then don't aim them.

It's just stereotyping, they see the colour of the light and think it's wrong. They're really just dumb though.

If you've dropped your car at all, it's likely that your headlights aren't aimed properly anymore, so that could be it.

^ that will only shorten the throw of the headlights. It would be raising the car that will **** off drivers. (and me)

Your headlight alignment is easy to check, pull up to your garage door/flat wall and turn on your headlights. If one is "Out of Whack" it should be obvious....

What everyone is saying is good advise.
As far as your question about flashing them back...there's no point. You know you don't have the high beams on so let it go. Sometimes it's difficult to ignore but it's the right thing to do.

+1
That also depends on how much rake is added with the drop.
Usually the lights have to brought up.

A lot of "clueless" people bright light me, so I politely remind them of HID and give them a quick flash of the brights. They understand quickly after that.

I checked my lights after I lowered the car and they were a little low but not much so I just let them go. Oh well, they will get over it one way or another.

I just quickly flash my high beams when that happens.

hids in refector housing which you have has glare, lots of it ... that's why they changed it to projectors.. and OP like "silencer" said just flick your high beam real quick.. that will let them know your'e on low beam...

Just drive with your highbeams on all the time. Then there won't be any question
