Sedan to coupe
I have a gray 07 G35x. Totally stock. It is a beautiful car. I like almost everything about it. It is an automatic. I like manuals better, but this automatic is really slick. The manual shift mode is pretty useless and in sport mode it works better anyway.
I also have an 06 6MT coupe. Totally stock. It is a beautiful car. The interior is nowhere as nice as the 07 G35X but it is more fun to drive.
The coupe handles better (also rides rougher and louder) but the 0-60 times are nearly the same and I'd bet on the sedan (with AT) over the manual coupe in a 0-60 race.
As mentioned, arguing over which one looks better is pretty idiotic.
The sedan is much more comfortable for long trips and carrying more than two people. The coupe is more fun and will be my track day car.
I am not into mods. The vast majority of cosmetic mods are expensive and often ruin the looks of the car. The vast majority of performance add-ons are snake oil and voodoo. You lose money on almost all of them. The only reason the car is faster is because there is less weight.....in your wallet. If you have the money and they make you happy I think you should mod whatever you want and enjoy it. But its not for me. I will upgrade brake pads and fluid before going to the track.

saywat, I don't know if you're crazy or not, I'm not a psychiatrist. ;-)
I'm just comparing what I have experience with. And they are both 3.5s. I think the 07 coupe is pretty much the same as the 06. I think the sedans got a significant quality upgrade in regard to the interior in 07. The coupe has 76k miles on it, but its interior looks cheap and there are too many rattles and squeaks to track down. I open a window or turn up the stereo (which is also pretty cheap sounding). I'm assuming the 08 coupes are similar to the 07 sedans on the inside. The sedan has 50k miles on it and the interior still looks great and no rattles or squeaks. The black on the steering wheel is coming off. So cheesey.
I guess the hard question is which one would I keep if I had to choose. The answer would be the G35X. It is great looking. It is super comfortable and quiet. It is very nearly as fun to drive and just as fast.
If I where buying right now what would I get? G37 sedan with 6 speed manual.

The base price for the 335i is about $2500 more than the G37 6MT sedan. And as best I can tell without a ton of research it looks like you're talking closer to $5000 comparably equipped, maybe more. That starts pushing the envelope for the same price range. I'm not knocking the BMW. By all accounts they are the best. But I've got three close friends who have various models (several 3's, a 6, an X5 and one of the roadsters) and they are nothing but trouble; constantly in for repairs. One of them gave up on the roadster and got rid of it for the 6 (which is gorgeous). He's in a different loaner every day with the 6 in the shop. And the dealerships act as if you should be honored to be paying for their top priced services. They still love their BMW's so they must be good. I wouldn't touch one after all the stories they tell me.
And I must admit, when all the auto magazines can point to is some barely tangible difference between a 3 and a G and the 3 costs so much more and are so notorious for high maintenance costs, the 3 loses its appeal and the G just shines. But that's just me. And its not sour grapes. I've got two G's. I could get a 3 if I wanted one. But only one. ;-)

I'm just saying
I'm probably more likely to actually own a G37 sedan because I think I am too cheap to pay 45 grand for a car anyway, and I wouldn't want a 335i out of warranty, so I would opt for a used g37, 370z or a lexus IS. But money being no object, I want the twin turbo bimmer.

EDIT: Which would be silly, of course, since the beautiful Ariadne was born in the Canary Islands.
