What?.. This doesn't even make sense. All cars that are 96+ (obdII) already hook up to smog machines through there OBDII ports. By not having to do tail pipe emissions they're only making it easier to counterfeit smogs! Whoo hooo!

Oh and what many of you may be unaware of is "Catback" exhaust systems have absolutely nothing to do with smog. Anything and everything from the Cat on forward is emissions related. So in theory you don't even need to have a muffler installed to pass smog.

source: smog tech for almost 2 years and counting.

^^so essentially this is for those who have their custom tunes? as for us (me in the future) who have any kind of modified cats or none would just need to throw some cats on and go do our thangaling?

Yes.

Do any of you guys have an obd2 scan tool? Does have the state obd2 test function? If so, it will tell you if your car will pass.

All the system does is look for a check engine light, and look to see if certain diagnostic monitors are complete. It doesn't actually run a true sniffer test.

You really just need o worry about visual, but if your check engine light is not on you are good.

If I understand the newspaper article, CARB currently requires a tailpipe direct measurement (sniffer)? What they are proposing is using ODBII on 2000 year models and newer. If the cars ECM (computer) says it's good, you are good to go. If your cars are not throwing codes you will probably be OK, provided they don't do a detailed visual inspection. Some of you may require O2 simulators to satisfy the ECM. I don't think it's going to be that bad.

That's my thought! I'm not worried about passing the ECU test, but the visual test is the pain.

Even if he does, you'll pass. That unibrow will cover his view on a lowered car.

Na, it's 6 years from where the car was purchased, then every 2 years after that.
