Who's got there snow tires on yet?

Hey everybody

I got my snow setup about 2 weeks ago off tirerack (17" sport edition rims with ws-70 blizzaks) and was wondering if anyone has put theirs on yet.

Is there a rule of thumb when we should put them on? I know that it is not good for the tires to be driven in warm/dry conditions but my rear tires are very low on tread and I don't want to buy anymore til spring...

I don't want to get caught in bad weather but I also don't want to burn the tread off my new $1300 set of rims/tires. What does everyone else do?

BTW I live in Western New York...Its been unseasonably warm lately. It's been around the mid 50's during the day and down to the high 30's at night.

Thanks in advance!

You pretty much answered your own question.....

Is there snow? If not, then dont put them on yet. When the temps drop below freezing is a good time to put them on. Running them in dry/warm conditions serves no purpose. Theyre soft compound, dry pavement just wears them away faster. My brother runs snow tires on his ION Redline and usually switches back to stocks if the roads are clear and theres no snow for like a week or two.

And its THEIR, not there. Drives me crazy when people cant learn how to use they're, their, and there correctly

FWIW, my rule of thumb is when temperatures stay consistently below 10°C (50°F) you can run your snows.

+1 I haven't even had mine mounted yet, but I plan on putting them on over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Mounting mine next week when I get home. :) Temps have been in the 30s, or low 40s on the high side.

Don't worry...it usually drives me crazy too. It was a typo and I couldn't figure out how to edit the title of a thread once it was created so I just left it...

That sucks. I do wish I had an SUV to drive in the winter but at the same time I would really miss my G!

But when it comes down to it I guess my real question is this:

Is it really gonna burn a significant amount of tread off of my snow tires if I put them on now?

My rear tires really need to be replaced but since I just bought my snow tires I don't wanna spend another $350 on rear tires when I'm just gonna be storing them for the winter. I could just as easily switch them out for my winters but I don't want to ruin the tires.

Mine's going into hibernation soon too. Waiting for my fiancee to get her new Accord coupe and I get her old car for my winter beater. Then tearing the G down in the garage and doing some bodywork
