Just bad luck for my G
it was just a bad storm.
And that my friend, is why I'd never put Hankook (Korean) tires on my car. Tire Rack has some great test write ups on performance tires. You don't have to spend a lot to get good tires, but you must know what you're buying.
I asked my mom about this awhile back.
She said it's stupid to let anyone else borrow your car because would you let anyone else borrow your wife? Same thing.
I have friends that don't care much for that and I ALWAYS get alot of crap from them for like not trusting them with my car. It's not really about trust though.. because what if THAT^ happened where my car got totalled. Wouldn't want to end up paying for the damages. Plus the car means alot to me.
yea when i was growing up my dad would say stuff like that to me too about letting people borrow car and letting people drive it. he even tripped about giving people ride cuz he says even if they pay for gas whos gonna pay for the maintenance and everything else later on
Dude, sorry to see your poor car wrecked like that.
Don't try to excuse your friend's crappy driving with the fact that he's used to FWD. FWD and RWD require the same amount of care in wet conditions, and the G35 has a very aggressive stability control system which will cut back throttle well before you get in trouble, so either your friend did something really dumb, beyond the DSC's ability to recover, or he turned it off, which is equally stupid.

For the comments in response to my post: Its a freaking car, there are grandmas who drive G35s; they were not built to be some super twitchy car that FWDers need extreme care not to put into a wall.
Nothing against you OP since it was your friend and not you.. it really does suck to have someone else total your car
I don't understand HOW your friend totalled the car. If he wanted to test drive it; why did he have to put it into a wall? I wouldn't have let him drive. Hell, I don't let anyone drive my new car unless I'm in the passenger side ready to jump on him for being an *******.
Sorry about your loss but damn; sucks your friend couldn't even pay you back.

yea it was actually fixable but insurance didnt wanna do it since the car was valued at 23gs and they said the fix was gonna be over that, yea it was my fault i let him drive i know that, and yes its a stupid excuse for saying its wet but yea we had the vdc off so no t/c was on or anything. i learned the hard way. i know it hurts some of your guys eyes to see a good g go to waste im sorry
I never understood why people let their "friends" drive their cars. To the OP, you let your friend drive your car:
1. On wet ground
2. Had no prior experience with a RWD car
3. Wanted to test out the "power" of the car
4. Has no job, and subsequently,
5. Most likely had no insurance...
Sure, why not, sounds legit, I mean, what could possible go wrong?

Now you know that TC serves an important purpose. The stability control in modern cars intervenes when there are sudden changes in the car's behavior, which generally means you've lost control. They can save your butt in many cases when you make a mistake.
Contrary to popular opinion, it DOES NOT make you go slower. When you're smooth, and you control car weight transfer properly, even with VDC on, you can get the car a fair bit sideways or into a four wheel skid and the VDC won't do anything, because you've done it smoothly and are clearly in control. The only thing it really prevents is doing a burnout.
Unless you really know what you're doing, and skidding is just another aspect of being fully in control of a car, don't turn off traction control, ever. Practice driving to see how much you can get away with before it kicks in, which will make you a better, smoother driver and eventually able to 1) prevent these spins, and 2) control them.
