So I was on another forum complaining about one of the other cars that I own and drew possibly an unfair generalization about the quality/service of the marque based on the other problems I saw people reporting. Someone pointed out how nobody really posts about the good experiences on these forums implying my unfairness.

So here's my good experience. I bought a new loaded 2004.5 G35 coupe off the lot for $35k. Since then the car has remained mostly stock and accumulated 42k miles as my daily driver including a little autocrossing on R-comps. I've replaced tires, pads and rotors but everything else has held up. Only thing to fail on the car was the OEM battery which failed after 7 yrs of faithful service.

 

Good to know. On my '03, I have replaced everything you mentioned plus one of the belts.

Yeah totally agreed, I feel my G has held up very well.
U might want to keep an eye on the belts, cause they're due to be changes with +40k miles on em.

 

Yup. Was gonna change them on my next day off.

 

Bought my coupe in 02 and the only problem I ran into is the CD player not working. I got it replaced once during warranty and now replacing it again due to the same problem but with an aftermarket one. Other than that the car had performed exceptionally well when it was stock. I loved the car then and still love the car now.

 

I have had an awesome experience with my car and she's turning 92K this week.

 

Im at the point where I want a new car because my car is 7 years old.

But when I go to look none of the cars in my price range (less than $40,000) have anything special that makes me want to give up my G35

I drive an STi but it was just to noisy. I drove a g37 and it just doesnt have the same feeling.

I cant do it man...I just cant give it up

 

I've had my G since 2003 & 12 miles on the odo. Always maintained it now it's at 60k miles and;
I've replaced the CD changer...twice.
Shifter once.
Valve covers once.
compression rods...twice.
bushings...to many times to count.
Steering rack & pinion once.
Power steering pump once.
battery.
Tires.
rear axle once.
Trans relay harness once.
in cabin filter a few times.
brakes twice.
had a caliper seise up so replaced that.
replaced seat rails twice.
replaced a bunch of suspension parts i dnt even remember what they were.
& my vdc, abs & slip lights have been turning on and my car died on me yesterday so it's going back to the dealership to see wtf is going on with it. (I have warranty so I just bring it to the dealer. Thank god I have warranty)

 

I've had my 06 coupe since October 2007. The only thing that has had to be replaced besides regular maintenance like regular wear and tear items is the passenger side window motor and the CD player 3-4 times(Under Warranty). Also the Driver side airbag module which was "Good Willed" when I was out of warranty. Other than that my G has ran great!

 

just dropped her off at the dealer again. cooool cooll this car has been in the shop more than i've been driving it the last like 5 months.

Maybe a stock G35 is fine but that car is not made to mod. You touch 1 thing & it triggers everything.

 

Not true,,,,....there's thousands of coupes/sedans across the world where they've just added wheels or maybe an exhaust and drove the wheels off. My best advice is not to join DRIVER or go to meets, that's when the mod bug will ruin you life!
The only real issues I've had where I used my warranty were lock/window motor issues. Everything else has either been an upgrade of normal maintenance in my just barely 38K miles.

I've had seat problems twice. Wear items like brakes have had to be done. Items like batteries have had to be replaced twice in 8 years and 82500 miles. Tires replaced once, probably again within a year. Rear window light. Floor mats. Gas door solenoid. Rear shocks. Normal scheduled maintenance of belts, coolant, transmission fluid, etc.

Really the only emergency stuff that caused problems was a 3 week period this summer when the car started overheating in real hot weather while idling. Radiator clogged. Based on searches here, it was probably dirt/dust that is hard to clean. I get that fixed, then on a trip to colorado the pulley seized and the belts jumped. A tow, and 3 1/2 days later waiting for the part to be shipped to Colorado, then the Ford dealership in a small town, it was fixed. I get home, then the battery dies

But it has worked fine the last 2 1/2 months and I trust it again

I'm beginning to think of another car, though. I've had this car longer than any other primary car in my life. Only thing longer is my current pickup, which is a second vehicle with under 4K a year.
