First, why is it time to sell her? If it's still running well, then keep it for now. Second, as you said, you're a college student. Wait until you're out of school and have a real job before taking on a bigger car payment. The slight increase in mpg you're looking for is greatly offset by the extra $200+ per month you'll be paying for that extra $10K. Even if you've got the cash to pay for it, you'd be better off saving that money for now and just using some of it for repairs as they come up.
EDIT: Sorry, I wrote this before the two previous responses, but forgot to Reply until after lunch.

I would find myself a 2000 BMW 5 series, and mod it to make it look nice and clean. Or i would find a 2000esque BMW M5.
I think I've come to terms with the idea that you can't really buy 'nice drivers' cars that get good gas mileage unless you have lots of money. Kind of ironic...

You're right, I got too excited lol
How about 2000-2003 bmw 530i's? They run anywhere from 8-12 grand. You can have a sweet practical whip, save some money, and then used the saved money to offset the higher costs in fuel/whatever else comes your way.

Just keep it since you are student. Get a real job and then start thinking about what to get. unless it is no longer mechanically sound, then you will have to weigh the cost of repair verses 10k on a car that my or may not need repairs down the road (besides the routine maintenance of course).
