anyone have experience with megan headers?

found a set of megan headers on a local forum. the seller had a 350z but never got a chance to put them on his car and has since sold the car. now i've heard headers don't make much of a difference but, when completed with full exhaust the hp output is better. i'm just not sure of the brand megan. the headers are new and he even had them wrapped with that thermal tape. i've heard before that megan products aren't so great but, that was when they first began and now they have good products. the guy has them advertised for $200 OBO. i contacted him and he still has them and told me to make an offer. i figured if these headers were decent and i could get them at a good deal and they'd bolt up to my stock cats then why not. i havent had my car too long and the only mods i have is a stillen intake and ichiba Y pipe. if i could get these headers for $100-$200 would it be worth it or not? i plan on doing full exhaust but, it will all come in time. can anyone give me some input on these headers and as to whether i should go ahead and get them. also, i install all my own parts, are these going to be a PITA? any info is appreciated. thanks.

From what I heard even with a full exhaust system, headers are only going to give you a little to modest gain to HP. I think I read somewhere on this forum, the headers only netted them around 3RHP, 4TQ. Megan headers tend to crack, so I think DC headers would be a better choice. If you could get them for 100, then you can always try it, but installing the headers is a PITA, so in the end, its your choice if you think the headers are worth it or not.

that answers my questions then. also, it seems like someone out there would make a better hp producing header with so many enthusiasts. i'm new to the g scene so i may not have come across them yet i guess.

If you really want headers pick a manufacture that has the best quality....Megans aren't. Keep in mind any header is a PIA to install and the rewards are not worth the expense unless you're going FI. Want results from you exhaust system either get MotorDynes Art pipes or to be legal BERK'S HFCs? The OE cats are where 80% of the restriction is within your system possibly more depending on your mileage!

ah i see. haven't yet learned that. i knew they were restrictive but didn't know how much. i dont live in a state that checks emissions so motordyne could be a consideration. i know aftermarket cats make your car louder but, by how much? i love the sound of my car now but, seeing as i only have my exhaust modded with the ichiba Y pipe it's restricted at the cats, frees up alittle at the Y and then is again restricted again past that. i'll have to search and find an exhaust that's not too loud but, also 3" the rest of the way back. i like the oem look of the muffler and have seen some aftermarket mufflers with the same look but, they're better fllowing. as far as exhaust i want something that isn't really loud while cruising. that's really one of my main concerns with high flow cats. i've heard they're really loud. i just want to be able to maintain a conversation while cruising and also not sound too loud or high pitched under open throttle. as far as the cats being loud is everyone somewhat exaggerating? also, are most aftermarket cats direct swap?

thanks everyone. i've really learned alot since becoming a member on here and plan on learning alot more.
