The hatchbacks on coupes are pretty heavy themselves on most coupes , have you ever lifted one with the struts being out? They frame is pretty duty to hold that large of a piece of glass and since there is a really large opening in the unibody it has to have additional reinforcement for sure in that area.
On top of that the coupes have a heavier lsd differential and if you have Brembos with larger rotors then there is additional weight there.

Also, some good theories here behind why the Coupes are heavier and I certainly don't know for sure, but generally speaking 4-door sedans are ligher than their coupe brethern because metal is heavier than glass and there is more metal in the roof of a coupe than there is in the glass greenhouse of a comparable sedan (the B-pillars are wide swaths of steel in a coupe where the 4-door has narrow B & C pillars, etc.) I know this is true for other cars & models, but don't know the specifics of the G35's. But just take a look at the amount of metal in a coupe roof and then notice how much less in a sedan roof.
Just sayin'....
That doesn't sound right, it should be lighter. Do you have a sound system?
