they already said it. the shift interlock stops you from being able to move the shifter until your foot is on the brake. in my last car an integra you couldnt hear it however the saabs i work on have very loud shift inter locks

 

oh interesting cause on none of the previous auto cars i've owned or driven never heard of that sound before.

 

Wait until you hear the ABS self test, it'll freak you out.

Happens every time you start the car and begin to drive. It kicks in around 10 MPH and to me sounds like I ran over a grate. Lasts for only a second but if your foot is on the brake pedal you'll feel it vibrate. Listen for it the next time you take off.

 

oh i think i know what you are talking about, i thought it was something going on with a transmission, next time i will put my foot on the brake pedal and see.

No worries, I've been driving for 35 years and the G is the first car I've ever driven that does it.
