Engine oil recommendation

I have a 2005 G35 Coupe with about 105,000 miles. I wanted to get some input on the type of oil some of the G35 diehards use. I normally take my car to the shop for the oil change and don't pay much mind to what they use, but I am planning on doing the oil changes myself and wondered if I should go with a high mileage oil? I live in AZ and it doesn't really get cold enough to worry about using a different viscosity oil in the winter. Any input you guys can provide will be appreciated.

Thank you
Stacy

Welcome to Driver Stacy! We have two recommendations for new members, if you have questions use our Search at the top of this page! To gain knowledge about what you drive, read all the stickys at the top of the coupe page! Asking for oil recommendations is like asking what's the best gasoline to use or best tires or...get the picture? What does Nissan recommend? Search!

Personally I prefer the stock Nissan oil, everyone has their own preference and every motor is different (to a degree) and will behave differently based on the conditions the motor saw for the last 105,000 miles.

Plenty of opinions here on the oil subject, just use the search function and read until your eyes bleed lol.

If you're doing it yourself I would say go for a high mileage synthetic and just stick with it, Over 150000 miles I've had practically every type of oil known to man in my car and none of them appeared to be any better or any worse. The car starting using a little oil around 50000 miles when it was on synthetic Mobil 1, stayed steady till about 125k and then increased consumption over the last 25000 to use a qt every 1500 miles. My suggestion is to not overthink this one. Anything oil with a quality filter will be fine.
