Beautiful Exhaust Note...

Hey guys,

I've been lurking and reading about the G35 for a while. Then recently registered as a user. Last weekend I bought a G35 coupe. It has a few minor issues, and I am addressing them. And one major issue. It needs a clutch. But it will get by as is for a while, and I will get it all sorted out. Heckuva car.

I first really started liking these cars when I had an FD3S, and raced a G35. The FD3S crushed the G35, but the G35 kept up better than I expected. I always thought they were a good looking car, but gained a lot of respect for them with that race. Fast forward a bunch of years. I bought a Lexus LS 460L. My only complaint, the car was too quiet. I got to thinking why should this car be absolutely silent. Not every owner is a dinosaur (just most ). And I always loved the sound of the G35, and FX35. Those are Infiniti's which are luxury cars, so why couldn't my LS sound as nice?

So, me being a mechanical engineer, I made a simple piece of hardware that would let just the right amount of sound out. Not so much to be loud like a Mustang, but loud enough to remain svelte, with a touch of attitude. Long story short, those items called "Exhaust Vents," sound really great on an LS, and I sell them on the Lexus website.

Now, back to the G35. Wednesday night I got the bright idea ... why not see if these even fit on the G35. And lo & behold ... THEY DO. So I put a set on my G35. I've got very little experience with the car. They sound different that stock. A bit louder of course. I have my opinions of this mod, but you guys having experienced these cars could paint a better picture. The car sounds awesome as is, but with my "Exhaust Vents," it sounds even better in my opinion. Especially in the 3,000 - 4,000 rpm range. It's just pure heaven. I'm very happy with the G35. The best and worst part is, I bought the car for my 17 year old son. So, I won't get to drive it much. But from 3,000 to 4,000 rpm, the sound of this car makes me salivate. It always has. When I would be out somewhere, and hear the sound of one, I would stop, and stare mesmerized and listen to it until it was out of earshot. There's a 17 year old girl across the street. And her boyfriend told my son, "(The girl's name) saw you driving by the other day and said, "That's (my son's name)'s new car ... ooooooooh, that's nice!" And now, he's as obsessed with the car too. He's had other guys at school tell him his car sounds awesome. So, G's up! Loving the G!

I'm not trying to sell the Exhaust Vents here. The car sounds great as is. But, the cool thing is, I sell them for a heck of a lot cheaper than most any other exhaust mod out there. And, they are 100% reversible. You can add these yourself. But if you guys find this interesting at all, you can do a search for Exhaust Vents, on the Club Lexus website and find all the info you want.

I'd like to know what you guys think.

I'll try to get a video of it. But I don't know what it will sound like on the video. I have only a few days experience with this car so I can only say that it sounds like a normal G35 (which is a compliment) just louder. 3,000 to 4,000 rpm is just fantastic. I stay pretty busy on the weekends (at a bmx race right now).

No worries, just when you get a chance, most folks know what it sounds like stock so no real need for a comparison vid or anything just curious. Does it add any cabin drone? I know there's been quite a few folks looking for a deeper tone and if it performs as well on the G as it did in that Lexus on the promotional video clip then it's probably going to be a popular item for folks not looking to do an exhaust replacement but just want a more aggressive sound.

Cleric - I would email you, but whatever comes of this, I want it to be transparent. I'm a mechanical engineer and spent roughly 15 years working in the automotive field. The point is, I love cars. Some more than others. The G35 coupe is one I love more. Never thought I would buy one, just because the family.

Question to you: Does your G35 run the stock exhaust?

Well ... I'm looking for an impartial tester. At a low-low cost of FREE! The only requirement is that if a tester thinks it sounds like crap, then that's the feedback to be provided. I would not want to be involved is something that would be detrimental to the G35.

Subbed. Watching this with great interest. My sedanX (RIP, insurance boneyard) had a deeper tone that I miss with the coupe.

Video

I have a recording as of today with 2 G35s sitting side by side. One silver with stock exhaust and one black (mine) with stock exhaust and equipped with Oliver Enterprises Exhaust Vents. Just got to figure out how to post them up.

Meant also to say I'm not one to toss perfectly good stuff. So for me things like exhaust and brake upgrades would only happen when the OEM stuff wears out. Having found a 2006 coupe with 26.5K miles, I was looking at quite a while to get something with a deeper tone (but not louder, necessarily). That's why these intrigue.

Easiest way is to post the video to youtube and then put the link here, it will embed automatically.

Video posted on youtube. Link below. Just a quick video, rough. Ignore the illegal parking. We just did it momentarily to make the recording.
